Christmas Dinner
I know I ask this every year but again I'm stumped on a menu. My plan was to do a spiral ham and then baked ziti and meatballs. What sides and/or other dishes would you do?

Re: Christmas Dinner
Thinking what would go good with either or both dishes :
Potatoes, either scalloped or au gratin. A green veggie like roasted brussel sprouts with bacon, sauteed spinach with garlic, or string beans with shallots. Corn casserole. Creamed peas & carrots are a holiday dish in my family. Salad with pears, dried cranberries, goat or feta cheese. Garlic knots from the pizzeria (just warm them up)

Re: Christmas Dinner
Last year I did a spiral ham, a turkey, duchess potatoes, glazed whisky carrots and sweet potato casserole. It was great because every one of the sides went with both meats. I also made a fall harvest salad - romaine, spinach, dried cranberries, sliced apples, shaved parmesan and a homemade dressing what was a little on the sweeter side.
When I do Italian, which is often, I like to do a spiral ham and I usually will make stuffed shells or manicotti as well as meatballs and sausage. I don't make a specific side for the ham when I am making all of the Italian food, I don't really find it necessary and I don't feel that most people are looking for it.
This year I am actually thinking of doing a roast of some kind. I haven't decided for sure though.

Re: Christmas Dinner
I would add a salad, rolls or garlic bread
A few veggies: Roasted broccoli Grilled zucchini Roasted asparagus Sautéed spinach Peas in bacon/onions
I think those all go with either option

Re: Christmas Dinner
We normally do a filet or a roast of some sort with a ton of sides; but we decided Italian this year. I want it easy; and I nixed the ham too which I am happy about. Maybe because I hate it.
Antipasto.....of course
Main Meal:
Fresh Manicotti Sausage Bread---that DH makes so good Chicken Cutlets (fried--don't think I am doing Parm) Eggplant Sausage & Peppers
And Some sort of Waldorf Salad

Re: Christmas Dinner
For those of you who are doing the veggie sides (sautéed spinach, roasted broccoli, roasted asparagus etc) can you share recipes?

For the asparagus, just put your oven on 375-400 and toss the asparagus with olive oil and salt and pepper. Cook for about 20 mins or so. For a fun alternative, you can make asparagus bundles and wrap them in prosciutto or Serrano ham and cook for a bit longer.
Parmesan cheese will add that extra umami at the end.
ETA- I do the Serrano ham topped with a fried egg for brunch in the Spring.

Re: Christmas Dinner
I keep going back & forth with this but so far:
- stromboli - pasta dish (stuffed shells or penne alla vodka) - eggplant dish (possibly) - spiral ham - small turkey - sausage stuffing - roasted brussel sprouts - sweet potato casserole or roasted sweet potatoes - mashed potatoes
