CIO Ferber method...i think i cheated

I started this yesterday with hopes that i can get DS out of the FP rock and play sleeper and STTN in a crib...last night he cried for about an hr and a half...i went in every 10 mins...tonite im trying to push it to every 15 mins...i helped him roll over to his belly ( he does this normally, but helped him tonight since he was too hysterical to do it on his own)...if this calms him down, is this ok? I didnt pick him up to carry him...

I was hoping he would be STTN before i went back to work next week...it feels like im torturing him Chat Icon

Awwww CIO is so hard, you have to do what works for you! How old is he? Does he have good head control? Helping him if he's too upset to do it himself is totally fine, I think, but it is a good idea to get him used to doing it himself, maybe for naps?

He will be 6 months on 9/2...he has very good head control and for naps i did have him sleep on his belly...but i didnt do CIO during naps...guess i can try...he loved being swaddled, but breaks out of it...or tries to turn over while swaddled!

It's hard to do, and you have to tinker with it, to make it work for you and your baby. If you helped him roll, I think you're fine. If you make it to 15 mins. tonight, and 20 tomorrow, he may just figure it out on his own.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

If he's breaking out of it you can totally stop, he's lost that reflex (forget what it's called) that makes them startle and throw their arms and legs out. I found that doing true CIO for nighttime sleeping made putting him down for naps much easier. Good luck, and if Ferber is working and you don't want to do full-on CIO, go for it! Chat Icon

do CIO for night first, then work on naps.

I found that if he slept naps real well, he did much better going down at night.

I would help a little less and less each night, but do what your comfortable with. To me, CIO doesn't mean ignore your baby, it just means teach your baby to help themselves.
