Re: City Mini gripe...stroller advice...
I have a messenger style diaper bag so I just sling it over the handle by the strap. Never had a problem. We even used it in Disney this way and left the stroller empty many times while we went on rides. It has never, to my knowledge, tipped over.
Also the parent console that a pp mentioned is great for if you're just going for a short walk or something. Plenty of room for keys, cellphone, tissues, snack etc. and another cupholder.

I have the double but I either use the mommy hook or I can attach my skip hop bag right to the handle
I do the same regardless of what it says. DS weighs 25lbs, the only time it topples back is when I take him out of it sometimes.

I hang my diaper bag, DS weighs more than the bag it will no flip, and use the mommy hook for shopping bags.

Re: City Mini gripe...stroller advice...
Love the stroller but cannot stand the basket on the city mini & can't wait until my new stroller gets here with a basket that's actually accessible.
I never used a diaper bag and would throw an extra diaper & some wipes in my handbag & would have a hard time pulling my handbag out, which was a much smaller size than a diaper bag. The basket is large, but what good is it if you can't access it.
