Class Gift-- What would you do?
DS's class is collecting $100 from each child for a class gift- there are 2 teachers in the class. The organizer's email stated that they are collecting $100 but that you could give what you feel comfortable giving.
DH and I are only comfortable spending $75 so would you A. Politely decline participating in the class gift and give your own $75 gift to the teachers or B. Offer to kick in $75 towards the class gift.
ETA:
I completely agree that it is insanity lol. Glad Im not alone in thinking this. Im not contributing $100 regardless. BUt really just looking for which of the two options listed to go with- contribute my max gift to the class or separately.
To answer some questions its for pre-k, half day program and there are fewer than 10 kids in the class

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
I thought the point of chipping in was so you can spend less and still get the person a bigger gift ? 100, or even 100 split sounds very excessive.

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
What the absolute FUK is that? $100 per KID? How many kids in the class? Are they buying them LV purses?
The most I have been asked for on a class gift is $10 and that was for a teacher AND and aide gift.
Jesus Christ that is utter insanity.

Dd1s nursery class (3s) is collecting $95 per person. It's for two teachers, nursery director, nursery asst, music teacher. Librarian, 3 janitors, computer teacher and yoga teacher. Ugh

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
are these educators aware that there are collections going around for their gifts? I wouldnt like that either. Its coming from a good place, I get it. But on the receiving end, it would make me cringe

Class Gift-- What would you do?
That is crazy.
Our class contribution is $10 per child and covers the teacher and a bunch of "specials" teachers throughout the school.

That's insane. As class mom, we are collecting $10 per child for gifts for both the teacher and assistant.

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
that's ridicuous.
Im class mom and in our school - we collect $25 at the beginning of the year and that is for holiday gift for the teacher, end of year gift for the teacher and any parties throughout the year.
the only thing that we can ask for outside of that is food/drink contributions to the parties....

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
So, fewer than 10 kids @$100/kid, and two teachers. That's potentially $450 per teacher!

Re: Class Gift-- What would you do?
I'd opt out.
I may also let the class mom know she's nuts. I think $10 max for a class gift. They're planning on giving the teacher a $1,000 gift?!?!

Class Gift-- What would you do?
I was raised in a family that did not d teacher gifts. Now that I have a child in school I am not sure how I feel about it yet. But this amount is absolutely crazy. And to give a Christmas bonus to directors and janitors IMO is crazy also.
20 years ago I was a teacher at a daycare and for the 3 years I had the job, did not get a single gift from any of the parents, ever for anything. Reading here it is completely commonplace but in my experience it just does not happen.
