Clomid Versus Injectables- especially if you are over 40

So I just finished my first cycle of injectables. There were 5 follicles, 4 mature eggs retrieved and all 4 fertilized with ICSI.

Our plan was to stimulate for 2-3 cycles and bank the embryos for PGS.

Sticker shock when I called my insurance company and found out the total cost of all my meds for this cycle was closet to 13,000. I was expecting it to be about half of that.

If you have done clomid (I haven't) and injectables what was the difference in the number of mature eggs. I think they call call ivf with clomid miniIVF???

Just trying to figure out if I would be wasting my time with clomid or is it possible we could anywhere close to the 4 eggs we got with injectables. I know I ovulate on my own and have very regular cycles, however I am 42.

There's no way to predict how you'll react to Clomid unless you try. I was on 100mg twice and only made 1 follie each time. For injectables, I had 2 and 3 follies for my IUIs and 15 (10 mature eggs) for my IVF. Obviously totally different dosing.

my meds capped out at almost 15 k for the one cycle. the follistim is soo much $

in any case, clomid will probably not generate a lot of follicles. You would need the other meds to get more eggs.

Something to be mindful of is your annual deductible. Could you have everything done so you max out early in the year?
