Clomid vs Injectables
I have done clomid with IUI twice. Once with 50 mg and another with 100. Both times I got good sized follicles but neither resulted in a pregnancy. I am now contemplating whether or not to do another IUI using Injectables. Or just moving on to IVF. The debate is hightened by the fact that I have no infertility coverage. So every IUI is taking money away from what I could be using for IVF. Just wondering if another one is worth it. Does anyone have any input for a very frustrated and confused lady? Thanks in advance

Re: Clomid vs Injectables
I can tell you what I am going to do. I respond well to Clomid, and I am dealing with MF IF. I am going to do 3 rounds of clomid/IUI, I am already onto my second. After that i am going straight to IVF, and my RE agrees with my plan. I only have so much insurance and i see no need in doing IUI after IUI if they aren't working.
If I had a different diagnosis for IF then I would do a different protocol.

id go to injectables and skip clomid altogether. even if you respond to clomid, you will likely get more follicles from a low dose of injectables and IMO it is easier to gauge the response and time an IUI with injectables. clomid is a tad more unpredictable because you just take the dose and go in and hope you have mature follies. with injectables you go more but they constantly manage the dosage to get you exactly where you need to be to trigger and perfectly time an IUI.

We chose not to do the injectables because I produced multiple follies on just 50mg of clomid. We were afraid I would produce too many on injectables and the cycle would be cancelled. So we did 3 IUIs with clomid, skipped the injectables and went to IVF.

Re: Clomid vs Injectables
It really depends on what kind of IF you're dealing with. As long as there's no medical reason preventing you from getting pregnant, then IUIs should work for you.
I did 2 IUIs with clomid and then moved onto IUI with injectables. I got pg with my first round of injectables.
I think it's worth trying a round or two of injectables since it's so much less expensive and less invasive than IVF. Also, it's much faster. You can basically do 2 IUIs in the same time as 1 round of IVF.

Your Dx and age are factors too. How much of a hurry are you in? I have always said that for my age group, the iui stats were too low. If I had to do it all over again I'd go right to IVF. JMO

Clomid vs Injectables
I did 6 rounds of clomid/femara with iui and responded well so I didn't move onto injectables I didn't get pregnant... I agree with the pp's that it depends on your dx... You may want to move onto ivf after 3 if your paying oop...

Clomid vs Injectables
Thank you for all the advice. I am 28 and dealing with unknown reasons for IF. Everything appears normal from what we have had tested. I am thinking of doing the Injectables at least once. Making a total of 3 iui before I move onto IVF. Does anyone remember how much the Follustim costs?
