Well many private schools do not follow common core. My private school did not do regents and it appears they still do not take regents exams. Private schools run differently from public. You cannot avoid CC in public and must take the regents. Private school is the way to go if you want to avoid a lot of those issues.
That is probably a thing of the past. If you want a diploma in NYS, you have to take the Regent's test. There is no way around it (unfortunately). I wish it was as easy as enrolling my son in private school so he didn't have to take them to graduate (he likely won't pass them and won't get a diploma).
Our school as of this year is NOT requiring regents to graduate. Parents/students may choose to opt-in, but the school as a whole has opted out.

Re: Common Core & Private Schools
The schools offer their own diplomas. Remember that New York is the only state that requires regents, so if you don't get a regents diploma, no other state is going to look at it the same as nys. Check out www.nysais.org for more info on independent schools in New York.

Well you might want to look again. Friends does not. I just asked my friend who has a senior graduating from Kellenberg with honors and she said Kellenberg and Chaminade also do not take them. Some private do take them but not all do. I believe the school has to show their standards are as or more rigorous than the regents.
Correct. Kellenberg and Chaminade do not take regents tests. In fact, their own set of tests are much harder if you ask anyone that has taken them.
Not only are they harder but you also have to have a higher GPA to stay in the school then in public schools.

Re: Common Core & Private Schools
It is a private independent institution which provides a regular diploma that other schools offer. I graduated Kellenberg in '09 and went to Stony Brook University. I had no hassles getting into other universities due to the lack of regents. Simply when I attended Stony Brook I had to give additional forms (that the college guidance office faxes) stating certain things to be added to my transcript such as passing a certain level of foreign language and math. This would have been readily available if I had my regents, however, taking one extra step was not a problem.
I found the education at Kellenberg quite useful in helping me in college and am happy they are not going to switch to the practices of Common Core. Kellenberg really does teach independence and liberated thinking despite being in a religious setting which is hardly seen elsewhere. I wish I had taken more time to value the education at Kellenberg instead of being a nuisance.
Also, if you have a child going there make sure they keep their calculus notes! It saved me from doing poorly since they have better teachers there than my basic classes in undergrad.

Re: Common Core & Private Schools
I don't know if it is still possible, but does your school district offer a local diploma. I recall this being a thing when I graduated high school. There were a few types of diplomas: With Honors (you had to pass all of the regents exams with high grades and your GPA had to qualify for honors society. (Now I think they call it IB or something like that)
Regents (you had to pass all of the regents exams in the required classes)
Local (you did not have to pass the regents exams for this degree. You only had to pass your classes.)
Do they still do that?

WISH they still offered a local diploma. Especially since our children with special needs have a really slim chance of getting a high school diploma now. 4 years of school, working to the best of the ability, and zilch in the end. The State Dept of Education disgusts me.

While NYS no longer offers a local diploma, they do still offer and IPE diploma for children with special needs.

I think you mean IEP diploma. No, actually they don't. They took that option away recently. It's pass the Regent's and get a diploma, or fail and get a certificate of completion. I have a child in High School. The Law changed recently.

Not called IEP diploma...it is now called a certificate of Completion, which soon will be now a CDOS.
