Confused re: milestones and what is a cause for concern...

My DS is all across the board with milestones. He walks now at 11 months, crawled at 8.5 months, rolled on time, etc. But he REFUSES to wave or clap. REFUSES. I wave at the kid ALL DAY long. We see someone, I wave. We give high fives, he won't clap back.

When is it a cause for concern? We haven't had his year appt yet, and in some ways I think he is physically advanced (he has good fine motor skills and when given a jack in the box spins the handle and also pulls the level to make it pop up without going through the song...), yet in others he just refuses...

I really wouldn't worry about it. He sounds like he's doing everything he's meant to - he just doesn't want to wave or clap. I think they all have their quirks - T could sit up on his own at 4.5 months, but wouldn't roll over until about 7 months. Even now he's a crap roller! Chat Icon

I would mention it at your appointment, but wouldn't really stress. I'm sure he's just fine.

PS good luck with that walking! Chat Icon T stood up on his own for 16 seconds yesterday, so I think we're headed in your direction!

I wouldn't be worried. Waving and high five are just examples of the physical activity he should be doing. Spinning a jack-in-the-box is much harder!

Wouldn't worry about that. One of my sons waved and clapped much earlier than the other.
