cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
Hi all,
Just curious if I'm getting ripped off. I'm having all four wisdom teeth out and they're knocking me out for it. It's going to cost about $2800. Is that normal? Can you all share how much it cost you if you got all four pulled? Thanks!

Re: cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
I don't know because my insurance paid 100% and I wasn't knocked out, but I just want to say that it will vary based on how complicated the extractions are. If they are impacted or partially impacted it's going to be a longer, more complicated process than if they are just pulling a fully erupted tooth- and therefore cost more. So it's really going to depend on your individual situation...

for middle of the road extractions (surgical), with sedation, panoramic x-ray and exam, you are looking at about $2200, if they are more difficult extractions (soft tissue or bony etc), or the anesthesia time is longer you can go upwards of $2700. I think the price you got was a little high, but without seeing the x-ray its difficult to say for sure.

i would say that's reasonable. I paid about $1500 and that was well over 10 years ago and only 3 were pulled out.

Re: cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
It depends on your coverage.
DW just got two pull and regular anistics and we paid nothing.
The bulk of the total is probably for being knock out as many insurance companies don't cover it.

Re: cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
I just had my last wisdom tooth pulled last week and it cost me $490 with EDP discount. It was $325 for General anes. $325 for an impacted soft tissue extraction. $160 is paid by EDP.
ETA: they didnt have to do any x-rays because they had them already. That would have been an extra $100.

Re: cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
I paid $2000 for three.
However, ask for a breakdown. I think more than $1000 was JUST to get knocked out. If you don't need to get knocked out you can save a lot!

Re: cost to get wisdom teeth pulled
Thanks for the responses. I guess it's not so out of the ball park. Two of the teeth are impacted, two are out, and I'm being sedated. Based on what you guys have written, I guess I'm on the high end of what's usually charged.
One more question then: Did anyone try going through their health insurance to pay for this since it is a type of surgery? I was reading online that sometimes you can do this, but I guess I just have to check with the oral surgeon.
Thanks again everyone!

It's funny because the oral surgeon did ask for my Health Insurance card as a back up- in case the dental didn't cover some of it. So yes, that is an option to look into - since it's being done by an oral surgeon. Luckily the PBA dental plan is kick azz and I didn't need to use the health insurance- but def look into that.
