Could use some advice! (warning: kinda long!)
hope you girls dont mind me crashing! i'm a newbie to LIF but a veteran over on LIW and knew this would be the best place to come plus i lurk over here all the time and you girls seem AWESOME!!
Anyway heres the situation.. my brother's wife is pregnant about 18wks id say by now.. and is due early sept. Im not close with her at all (long story alot of hard feelings) anyway hes my only sibling and im still pretty close with him. She has 3 children from previous marriage (all 3 over 16yo) this is my brothers first child. So they will need everything for this baby. They live out of state. My wedding is in June so money is kinda tight. There will be no baby shower as far as i know. But i do want to send a gift. I have found some 2 in one things.. such as a crib/changing table and stroller/infant car seat. Both in the range im able to afford.
Are these good gifts?? How do i go about asking if they will like what im thinking about buying since there is no registry? (my brother knows my financial situation and will tell me not to spend the money)
Please help!!! thanks for taking the time to read my novel!

Honestly, it's so sweet that you are doing this for your brother, despite your issue with your SIL. Being that her other children are over 16 yo and that she probably doesn't have ANYTHING for this baby, you are thinking PERFECTLY. a stroller/infant car seat would be perfect, as would a pack n play, or anything like that.

it's a very sweet idea....
the way you get info is through your parents or other siblings (if you have any) they likely will know if they bought a crib / stroller / pack and play yet.... or picked one out.

Rather than YOU deciding on colrs/patterns of car seat/stroller combo (which might cause more stress on your relationship with your SIL)- perhaps a gift card would be better.

I second a gift card or if you do get a stroller/pack n play or something, just make sure you include the receipt and it's from a place that doesn't have a problem with returns.

that was my original thought.. but it would not be used for something practical

I think both are great gifts. That being said - I think it's hard to choose a pattern that she may like. I think I would get her a giftcard to BRU - and in the card write how you wanted to buy her the stroller/carseat but wanted her to pick it out. Hopefully she'll use the money towards that - she'll need it anyway!

Re: Could use some advice! (warning: kinda long!)
Great ideas and so nice of you. But, I wouldn't want someone else picking those items out for me. Can you tell your brother that you are buying it with or without his help and give him the option to choose it? If not, then a Babies R Us gift card would have to be used on something practical for the baby!

Re: Could use some advice! (warning: kinda long!)
thanks girls for posting.. would it be appropriate for me to send an email with the items in my price range that i would be willing to buy and have them pick the one they like?? or if they choose none i can just cross that bridge when i get there? i dont want to be tacky even though its my brother. i know he would love a surprise!

Re: Could use some advice! (warning: kinda long!)
I would email my brother and say I either want to buy the stroller/carseat combo or a piece of furniture. Ask him if there is a pattern or color they prefer. You can also tell your brother that other people besides you want to purchase something for the baby so maybe they could set up a small gift registry.
