Covid prevention

Since it doesn’t seem to fit the media’s narrative it will never be brought up. But Covid ‘season’ will be back next year and you should all really speak to your healthcare providers about ways to start NOW to naturally boost your immune system. And ways to make yourself healthier so that if you do catch it, your body can handle it better. Just my two cents since it’s not an overnight fix

Isn't that the whole point of the vaccine?

Not to be snarky, but why start off your post "since it doesn't seem to fit the media's narrative"? Why not just post your thoughts without the commentary? Don't you think your post might be more well received without "taking sides"? There's been so much contention on these boards lately. No need to add to it

And yes, the vaccine is a big part of prevention. I KNOW - it's not 100% effective, but it is a BIG part of it.

And masks - also a big part of prevention.

Boosting your immune system is also a good idea - certainly can't hurt

I agree. No one wants to talk about eating healthier, exercising, getting sleep, having less stress in your life.
They are throwing free donuts and alcohol to you for getting the vaccine.
Everyone wants the vaccine to be their “quick fix” because, honestly, we can all admit, we are a lazy society. We want things now and don’t want to put the work into getting them.

No one wants to talk about getting healthier or being healthy? Seriously? What world do you live in? Hundreds of thousands of very healthy people got sick with covid. Some VERY sick. Some died. The vaccine is not a "quick fix." It is life saving science. Living a healthy lifestyle is a great thing for everyone - but it is no cure for covid or many many other diseases and is not a substitute for vaccines.

How about giving away lifetime memberships to gyms or healthy food service to get the vaccine. No we are pushing crap things because government knows that Americans are unhealthy and will jump for free crap.
Unless you know these “healthy” people by living with them 24/7, you have no clue what issues they had that will never be told or things they do on the side.

If you get off LIF and interact with human beings, PLENTY of people eat healthy and exercise. Your blanket generalizations show just how much you lack in interpersonal skills, tact, communication, and logic.

Actually, due to my job, I DO KNOW that many of these people did not have underlying health conditions. Healthy people in their 30's-40's who died or now have life altering effects from the virus. Yes, I DO KNOW. Not to mention, many underlying health conditions are not necessarily related to lifestyle - they can genetic or developmental, completely unrelated to lifestyle or diet.

And having A beer or eating a single donut does not create an unhealthy lifestyle. Not to mention that most people who got the vaccine did not receive any incentive, much less an unhealthy one.

No one is denying that healthy people got ill but the fact of the matter is that obesity greatly increased the severity of covid. Talk to any healthcare professional or do a simple google search. So it is kind of odd to offer things like free unhealthy food as an incentive to get a vaccine for a disease that very adversely affects obese people? Can you not see the irony there? It's like doing a fundraiser for diabetes by offering free donuts. It's counterproductive.

If you look at statistic though, people that were obese were much more adversely affected by covid than people who are not obese. That's a fact. As a society we are grossly overweight and unhealthy. I am not sure where you live or travel but get out there and take a good look at just how fat America is!

Yes, ww seems to be implying that if everyone lived a healthy lifestyle, covid wouldn't have been a pandemic, calling the vaccine a quick fix for lazy people. And I never said it was perfect, but offering a beer or a donut is not going to change someone's lifestyle - for better or worse. An honestly, if it got people to get the vaccine, I (yes me, just my opinion) think it's worth it.

Exactly!!! My child’s doctor even told us that the majority of Covid cases were people who were overweight and many had diabetes. He wanted us to know to be careful and try and get as healthy as you can to avoid going to the hospital if you got Covid.

I'm just trying to figure out what kind of person didn't get the vaccine- for whatever reason- and then all of a sudden a free beer or donut was offered and they were like -hell yeah, sign me up!
I feel like if you wanted the vaccine, you wanted it. For many reasons. And you probably anxiously awaited your turn.
And if you didn't want it- you didn't want it- for many reasons and you said, no I'm good for now.
How on earth a small incentive like 1 free beer or a free donut would change anyone's mind on a topic as important as a vaccine, is mind boggling to me.
I mean it's an item that costs a few bucks. It's not a life changing amount of money by any means.
I really don't get it.

If we eliminated all of the covid deaths due to obesity I think that you would find that the number would have been dramatically lower. It is a huge problem and the vaccine is a quick fix. Thank god it's a quick fix because you aren't changing the mentality of an entire nation as quickly as you can roll out a vaccine that will solve the problem. However that does not change the fact that long term American's should take a long hard look at the way the eat and live. Do some research on the amount that we spend in healthcare as a nation to combat issues that are primarily brought on by obesity. It's staggering. And the toll this pandemic took because of obesity is no different.

Please stop with this "everybody" nonsense. You are way over generalizing. Yes, there are many obese people in our society, but there are many who are not. And many who exercise regularly, or maybe occasionally, some who eat super healthy or maybe just moderately so. Some who eat a box of yodels for dinner every night and some who eat only veggies. And EVERYTHING in between. The world is not so back and white. Your concrete way of viewing the world is blind to reality.

Please don’t twist my words as that is not what I said. You have a better chance I’m not getting sick, being hospitalized and dying if you have a healthier lifestyle. You can not deny that with any virus or illness.

The point is not the one time donut but that no one is being encouraged to try and have a healthier lifestyle. A vaccine IS a quick fix to boost the immune system no matter how much you want to deny that.

I can't imagine it really incentivized anyone. I think things like free tickets to a ball game might. Honestly though I don't think that highly of people. In general I think people are both stupid and lazy! Chat Icon

Because people can be coaxed into anything it seems. I have a few friends who were on the fence about getting the vaccine and had said no way for the longest time. They were offered it at work and only had a short amount of time to decide and they decided to get it. Who knows what they were told that changed their mind but I can tell you they were adamant about not getting it for months.
Everyone has their breaking points.

An honestly, if it got people to get the vaccine, I (yes me, just my opinion) think it's worth it.

I don't think a beer or donut changed anyone's mind. I think many people are/were ambivalent about it and just "didn't get around to it." So then they're at a ballgame and were like, "oh hey, I was going to get around to getting the vaccine eventually, so why not get a free beer while I'm at the ball game." I certainly don't know that for a fact, but that's what I envision the thought process to be.

If you get off LIF and interact with human beings, PLENTY of people eat healthy and exercise. Your blanket generalizations show just how much you lack in interpersonal skills, tact, communication, and logic.

Plenty are overweight, obese and eat like crap. I know people who have had gastro more than once.
Everybody wants a quick fix. That magic pill.

You are insane. You need to travel to other parts of the country. 42.4% of Americans are obese. That's crazy.

American's are a bunch of fat asses

Just look at the amount of food Americans get at restaurants compared to other countries. Many many people don’t even understand what a serving size is and that you are only supposed to have ONE serving size when eating and drinking.

Do you not know anyone that can be coaxed easily to do things?
