COVID WWYD?
WWYD?
I'm supposed to go on an amazing 3 week kid-free RV trip around the country with my boyfriend - leaving Monday. He was on a 3 week trip with his kids and they caught COVID. His first symptom started a week ago (last Friday). He tested positive (home test) last Saturday and Sunday. As of now, he doesn't think he has a fever (he hasn't checked since he's mostly been medicated until 2 days ago) and the only thing he has going on now is a headache.
We're supposed to do all the prep Sunday after 4pm - shopping, taking stuff to the RV, etc, and leaving Monday morning. Technically, Sunday will be day 9 since his symptoms started.
Obviously I would prefer not to get COVID - especially since it might ruin the trip for me, but I have a lot of anxiety and I'm wondering if I'm being TOO cautious. What would you do in this situation? He can't push the trip back a few days b/c we have reservations at the different places we're going.

Re: COVID WWYD?
FWIW, by day 7 my son was already testing negative. My husband was still testing positive at day 9, so he wore a mask around us indoors until day 10. But my understanding is you are most contagious right at the beginning - so by day 9, you are probably unlikely to catch it.

COVID WWYD?
I don't know. I had tested positive for Covid about 9 days prior to seeing my SO. I had been feeling much better, still had a bit of a runny nose, was fever free for many days. But two days after us being together, he developed some symptoms. He never did test positive, but it was all the same symptoms I had, but just very short lived for him (like a day and a half...he is triple vaccinated for whatever that's worth).

Would you both be willing to mask up for the first leg of the trip? Or, I understand you can't push the trip back and start at the first reservation spot, but perhaps just miss the first one and begin at reservation spot number 2. Sorry you are dealing g with worry. It would worry me, too. Bring Clorox wipes and wipe surfaces often for the first few days. Maybe he will test negative on Sunday.

I would go and not even think twice about it but that's just me. I highly doubt he is still contagious anymore and even less likely on sunday.

They will be in an RV. I don't think masks are going to help. They can't wear masks when they sleep...

COVID WWYD?
If you have not seen him since he came home from his other trip, you should be well past the contagious time frame. Go and enjoy yourself! Bring some cold medicine just in case.

I haven't seen him or his kids since they left on their trip on July 4. He's in town now, but I've stayed away. I'll definitely bring cold medicine but thankfully we can just go to a store if we run out.

Same. You're probably around much more contagious people out and about every day

I would go, but I understand that you are Immunocompromised. That being said, the viral load is different for everyone. Covid headaches are the worst. He may not be shedding the virus. I would ask your doctor.

When my son was sick, my oncologist said to wait 14 days. But honestly, I have no idea if I'm immunocompromised at this point since my last chemo was Feb 2021. I had to wait 6 months for my first vaccine, but I've had 4 total by now.

When was your son sick? I’d ask my doctor again. I have only had the first two shots, but I had Omicron B1 in January. I wasn’t able to get the third vax because of it. I asked my doctor last week what to do about my third vax and she said to wait until they come out with the new vax because it is Omicron B4 and B5 around right now. The new vax is supposed to have Omicron protection.
It might help to get an antibody test. What virus mutation does your boyfriend have? They gave me a complete report when I got my PCR with which variant I had.

I'd go and try to forget about it and have fun. I wouldn't think he is contagious at this point.

Yeah - my son and my ex had covid in May. I don't know which one my bf has since he didn't get the PCR (just did a home test twice) but I'm assuming it's B5 since that's what's going around so much locally. It's been a while since I had my 2nd booster - it was right when it was approved for elderly and immunocompromised.

I know every case (chemo and cancer type) is different, but I was told that 3 months after my last chemo, your blood and immunity goes back to normal.
if your blood work has been pretty normal and it's been that long, you may not be immunocompromised

COVID WWYD?
I’d have him take a rapid test on Sunday right before he comes over and have him mask when getting things prepped regardless of if the test is positive or negative. I’d have him take another rapid test Monday morning. If it’s positive, I’d have him wear a mask in the RV, eat outside but obviously not wear a mask while sleeping. Hopefully he’ll be negative on day 9. It took my sister the whole 10 days.
50% of people still test positive on day 5, 25% of people test positive on day 8.

Being in an rv means the outdoors, which can be mask free because there is space, is a step away so masking up while inside is doable for the first few days if it makes the trip still possible and the poster more comfortable. Also an rv has more than one bed.

Yes, outdoors, except for the part where you are driving from location to location sitting right next to eachother in the RV or car that is towing the RV. Not to mention, even the largest RV is still pretty cramped, multiple beds or not....

I'm sure sleeping in a mask has been done in these past 2 years. Wouldn't surprise me.....

They should also definitely mask up while having sex.

Ugh that’s annoying but is he still symptomatic? Can you do the prep separately and just meet up Monday morning?
