Crossover/Small SUV Recs
Spinoff to the $4/gal gas, I NEED to get rid of my Xterra!
I have a so I need something roomy - but I drive a lot for work so I need it to be fuel efficient.
I was looking at the Volvo XC60; Ford Edge, Chevy Traverse....trying to stay $25-$30K.
Any ideas?

Love, love, love my Mazda CX9.
If you are on the island, I also highly recommend Wantagh Mazda. No BS whatsoever with these people.
It costs me around $65.00 to fill up.
It is what it is though these days with the damn gas prices.

Re: Crossover/Small SUV Recs
I have a Toyota Rav4, most basic edition possible. No real bells and whistles, but it's great for a small SUV. Cost me $51 to fill up the other day and usually lasts about 300 miles.

I have a cx-7 and love it. When we got it the cx-9 was not available yet so I would look at that too.

Re: Crossover/Small SUV Recs
I drive a 2007 Ford Edge with the vista sun roof & back up sensors (best thing ever) leather and power everything. At that time its was priced @32k. Its fine on gas and I love it! roomy (carseat and 2 addl ppl can fit in backseat) and drives like a luxury car.
I recommend Otis Ford in E. Quogue

We also have the CX9 and love it, but it EATS thru gas.
Why not look at a crossover hybrid? I think the Toyota Venza and Highlander have a hybrid options and so does the Ford Escape...

same here! LOVE my RAV 4. drives so nicely...My DH is 6'1'', and i'm barely 5' tall- and we're both comfortable driving it.... its roomy without being huge, and it really is good on gas for an SUV.

Re: Crossover/Small SUV Recs
we just got a CX-9 a couple months ago and i LOVE it! On the highway the mileage is pretty good... I work so close to home that I don't get great mileage cause I am on sidestreets so much.
But... honestly, I don't think cx9, traverse, etc are gonna give you much better mileage than your current Xterra they are all in the same class/size.... if you want better mileage you should look smaller like rogue, rav 4, CRV, murano, cx7, but will definitely be giving up trunk space. I went from an MDX to an RDX to a CX9... RDX was great on gas even though it had turbo (acura version of CRV).

LOOOOOOVE my Toyota RAV4. I have the Limited V6. It's SOOOO roomy, so zippy, and pretty good on gas for a SUV. I highly recommend it!

Re: Crossover/Small SUV Recs
thanks everyone!
I tested out the Rogue and liked it, but felt it was too small.
and my X probably gets 15mpg highway (its an 04!) so anything will be an improvement.

Re: Crossover/Small SUV Recs
GMC Terrain-all models come with a backup camera(Go GMC!). The smaller 4 cyl. engine gets 32 MPG(which I hear is closer to 28-29). But that's still excellent for this size truck! You can get the SLT1 for 28K which is the leather package with a few extras. It has excellent safety ratings too You can go as little at 25k base and as high as 34k fully loaded.
PS My Acadia is getting 12 MPG Thank goodness it goes in 2 months!
