CT announces full in person school in the fall
Gov. Ned Lamont announced today that as long as numbers stay at the levels they are now, children will return to school full time in September. No staggered schedules, no hybrid, no half days. Masks & social distancing will be required, children will stay in their classrooms all day, and cafeterias & gyms will be divided and converted into classrooms. Buses will not be socially distanced, operating at almost full capacity, with enhanced cleaning protocols and mask wearing. You know NY will not be doing that...so in case anyone wants to move there.

Funny. I think I read the opposite about Massachusetts. It’s too soon to know what is going to happen so I am going to enjoy summer as much as I can for now...

We extensively searched in CT right before covid hit. DH put the kibosh on it.
I’ll trade anyone an amazing CT real estate agent for a divorce lawyer.

Think they should open schools as normal and have parents sign a waiver they won’t hold school liable. It’s the new Covid waiver, if you don’t like it up can homeschool them...

Screw the teachers and staff and THEIR families amiright?? Because if teachers and staff go back to work "as normal" you can be damn sure they won't sign any waiver. Open as normal with zero protocols in place for PPE and social distancing and you can be DAMN sure people will sue when they get sick.
Yes they NEED to reopen schools, but staggered at first. They need to roll out something responsible and in phases, much like NY is opening in phases. Phase 1... half capacity in the buildings for 2 weeks... monitor. Then phase 2... 75%... then phase 3... 100% with monitoring and strict "send the sick kids home" protocol.. phase 4... business as usual, so that by the end of October, everyone is in the building having a normal school experience. Ripping off the band aid WILL result in sick people and lawsuits.

Lawsuits? How can a person be certain where he’s getting a virus? Can ppl sue a school if their kid catches a stomach bug, the flu, etc??

I think there should definitely be protocols in place. CT will have masks, social distancing, etc. But even with very strict protocols in place, there will be parents not comfortable with their children going back, and teachers not comfortable going back. And remote options should be available for them.

I keep saying this. There is no way to prove in court where you caught a virus. Lawsuits regarding catching Covid should not even be entertained.

I wonder how the mask thing is gong to work esp with the younger kids. My dd is 8 and in the rare occasion I take her with me to the store , it’s me constantly repeating “don’t touch” “leave your face alone” “ put it back over your nose”. I can just picture the teachers repeating the same things 10000x’s a day!

So what are some affordable areas in CT with good schools? I will seriously rent until NY goes back. I’m being totally serious too, my kids lost over 3 months of schooling they are not losing more because of our “leader”. .

My guess is they will eventually give up on enforcing it.

That is what I am thinking. It will be more of a distraction, unfortunately. I highly doubt the younger kids will keep them on

This. I’d also think that constantly touching the mask would invite other microorganisms to linger around the nose and the mouth more since they’d be trapped by the mask.

Yup, and are the schools going to be providing a clean mask for each student each day? Because you know parents aren't going to be washing masks everyday. This just sounds disgusting to me.

I have to look through my schools boe meetings, but I believe they started discussing the cost of Covid precautions, and one was the cost of a huge amount of masks for staff and students.
