Curious about CIO and a baby STTN

Tyler was sleeping at 6:15 last night. He woke up crying at 4:30. I went to get him bc DH is getting observed at school today so I didn't want him to wake up. I gave him a bottle and then got to thinking - he just went 10 hours without food - would you normally feed at that time? Would you do CIO? Would you just try to soothe him back to sleep?

I feel like even though he has slept for 12 hours he is still a really big baby and maybe he IS hungry?

Re: Curious about CIO and a baby STTN

My DD went to bed at 7 pm last night and woke up at 3 crying. I let her cry for a little while, but she wasn't self soothing. I tried rocking her, rubbing her belly, but it wasn't working. I gave in and fed her. She's a big girl also (almost 20 lbs) and I don't think she "needed" to eat, but perhaps was hungry after 8 hours. I know she's capable of going 11-12 hours without food and the ped recs that I do not feed her in the middle of the night, but I felt like I had no other option.

So basically, I'm of no help! I'm sure your son could go without eating, but 10 hours is a long time. I would have fed him also.

How old is your son? I think Dr. weissbluth suggests that some babies continue to need night feedings up to 9mths. after that he suggests not getting your baby till 6am.

the only potential problem is that your son can begin to wake at 4am out of habit. did he go back to sleep after you fed him?

Depending on his age I would def have fed him . My son STTN for 9 hours until he wakes to eat. He is almost 5 months.

Re: Curious about CIO and a baby STTN

He is 6 months today. He did go back to sleep after he ate.

At his four month checkup he was almost 20lbs so I don't even know how much he weighs now. He is a big boy though, so I do think he could have been hungry.

We will be doing CIO starting Friday and I'm not sure what time I should go and get him if he wakes. With my first son I wouldn't get him before 5am. I'm thinking I may do the same this time around.
