Dad's in Surgery (Updates through the thread)
Just put it here because my father is the best parent I’ve ever known. The man I strive to immolate in my parenting. He was there for AJ to be born, makes an effort to see her every year.
Short story (Since I’ll break down if I put more detail)
Diabetic
High Blood Pressure
High Cholesterol
Overweight
Kidneys have always been bad
He got a boil on his leg at least by Friday
Boil got bad and painful. Sunday he tries to convince my stepmother to lance it with a syringe he uses (clean) for insulin. She refuses and calls me. I tell him to see a doc but know he won’t and offhand tell him to wait until morning. Monday comes and he didn’t make it. Brother had an interview. Didn’t want to do the 1hr drive to the VA
This morning goes in
Ultrasound, other tests show
Low blood pressure (69), Renal failure Cirtin (??) 7.1, elevated white blood count.
He has an infection but they couldn’t see the source of the boil, its not a cyst thought. Still can’t do surgery because his kidneys won’t handle it. So they say he’ll have to stay in the hospital 2 weeks. Who knows by then his infection may heal up on its own.
I got to lunch
After lunch my big brother calls, Dad is in surgery. HOW!? Because its life or death. They found out the infection is eating him from the inside out and its really bad ‘inside’ so if they don’t carve some out he’ll die. But his kidneys you ask (I asked) they can’t handle the surgery. But they have to try. So he’ll either die from the surgery or survive to have dialysis then they’ll go back and get more of the infection later.
Dad doesn’t want dialysis. Doesn’t want to live. He’ll let them try but doesn’t really care. Already making funeral arrangements.
Ugh.
Happy birthday month to me, huh?
So I need to just wait and see what happens. I'll know tonight if my Dad makes it.
