Re: My father is in life or death surgery
Oh Veronica, I am so sorry to hear this. My dad is also a diabetic and had a terrible infection in his foot that he choose to ignore. He was admitted and they needed to do multiple surgeries to remove the gangrene. It was a long road. He was in the hospital almost 3 months. In addition to the infection, he was literally losing his mind. We didn't know if he could come out of it. But he did. The wound is now fully closed. And he mentally has it together. Please keep the faith that things will go well. From everything you've ever said about your dad, he's a fighter. Try to focus on what a strong man he is. He, and you, will be in my prayers.

That's what makes me mad. He just doesn't want to fight anymore. *sigh*
Thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted

Re: Dad's in Surgery (Updates through the thread)
Good morning concerned angels. Ya'll can be really great sometimes. Its just nice to have a place to vent, explode and dump when you're just in shock.
I didn't tell AJ a thing. I had to drop her off at my aunt's house last night. I talked to Jim about it and frankly its too early to really 'say' anything. She's already told my Aunt (who goes to docs a lot for regular stuff) that "Don't go to the hopsital, you'll die" which was ironic and odd before now its sorta of ugh.
I will tell her what's going on when its all said and done. I promised never to hide death from her and I have no intensions of doing so. HOWEVER, in the light of a new day I want to thrash my brother. I think he over dramatized the story.
Yes, its bad Yes, he could die from the surgery Yes, he coudl die from the infection
But ya know what? He could make it too. So I'm holding off stuffing him into a furnace just yet.
AM: Status: He's got a 12noon surgery set up. In order to do that he needs dialysis (?sp). He HATES that thought and I know he would reject it. But he accepted it because its really only just to get them through this surgery. My stepmom (biatche) said no to it. He can't sign because his hands are tubed up and he can't use them. However they've explained it several times to him and he said yes. My stepmother thinks they can't be sure. I said I know dad said no to dialysis but this isn't an every other day thing its just in the hospital. That's what the ICU nurse told me. So they are going forward with Dialysis.
He woke up around 4:30am and was dazed and confused and didn't know where he was Poor Dad
My sister has received permission to leave the Navy Base and go see Dad. She arrives tomorrow and I'm just still in a holding pattern.

Re: Dad's in Surgery (Updates through the thread)
Dialysis does not have to be permanent. There are plenty of people that receive dialysis temporarily. The dialysis will optimize him for the surgery. (I'm a nurse)
Continued prayers for your dad
