Or maybe it's also that 164 Black men and women were killed by police from January 1 to August 31, 2020. I think your percentage of "good cops" is way off.
Considering you don't specify how many of those shootings were justified or accidental this number doesn't really mean anything but even still, there are over 800,000 law enforcement personnel nationwide. Do some math and you will see that my number is not "way off." If you honestly think most cops are bad and the whole system is broken, don't use it next time you have an emergency.

Re: Daunte Wright
Omg did you even read this? the first four were totally justified!!! I can't even with this. What would you like the police to do? It's not enough that they risk their lives day in and day out but they shouldn't be able to defend themselves, for example, when someone is coming at them with a LARGE KNIFE?

Did you see my link how the number of white people exceeds black with police shootings?

It’s obvious from this thread they think the police are always wrong even when they are threatened. Resisting and noncompliance seems to be ok.
This is what parents are teaching their children hence why they are running around at 13 (Chicago teen) with a 21 year old at 2:30 in the morning with a gun.

I never said most cops are bad and the whole system is broken. I said your percentage of 99.9% was off.

Yes, you said it based on 164 people shot. Do some basic math. there are 800,000 cops nationwide. How many do you think are bad cops? Also what's your criteria for bad cops? 99.9795 were not involved in shootings of black people. And from your article it seems like most of those shooting were justified.

No, I wasn't basing it on that - it was two different thoughts. I mentioned the 164 people because you said people can't differentiate between this case and the George Floyd case. I think people are just fed up. But thanks for the math lesson.

Daunte Wright
Somehow a 13 year old is shot dead by cops in Chicago after he put his hands up but Kyle Rittenhouse crossed state lines at 17 and came with an AR 15, killed two people, and was given water by police.
He also has received numerous donations from officers and politicians around the country. Donations pouring in. Calling him a hero.
Lots to unpack here and more reasons why people are distrustful of police/officials.

The one whose mother drove him over state lines, who is a white vigilante who encourages racial violence.
Never said he was innocent either and another story of parents who have not done their job.

People have no answers for what the police should do. The vibe I am getting from some posters is for the police to not defend themselves. Maybe do away with law enforcement entirely, since a poster wrote the whole tree is rotten.

We need police but we also need reform. We also need to finally address cracks society and actually fix them in order for the entire system to work properly for everyone.
Other countries don’t have these issues because they have proper resources in place for homeless, mentally ill, healthcare, fair wages.
I’m writing this as I’m listening to yet another press conference about a shooting. Our country is in deep trouble and has been for years. Many other countries don’t have “police involved shooting” numbers like we do.
It’s OK to say you need an institution such as law enforcement but also acknowledge needing reform.

Again another incident of someone who was doing the wrong thing. The video is not clear if the kid had a gun. It was all in 20 seconds. Why do we constantly dismiss what bad things people are doing when horrible things happen? Never said it was right he got shot but once again things that should not have been done led up to the incident.

It’s also important for the good apples to start calling out the bad ones. I don’t see that happen. I see a lot of memes about backing police, don’t call us if you don’t back us, call a social worker, here’s a picture of a good cop helping a cat out of a tree. There are police social media groups where racism is rampant and there’s a culture of a code of silence and protection. We can’t pretend that doesn’t exist. It doesn’t happen in other industries. Teachers don’t protect other teachers, doctors don’t protect other doctors, I’m trying to think of another industry where it can be a similar culture and can’t think of one.
Then (locally) people suggest reform and host zooms where people can join in and talk to police about their thoughts and there’s backlash. Add unions to mix and it gets even more tricky.
Do we leave it all unchecked and as is? I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Absolutely but you can also do that without saying that the police are bad and there are a ton of bad cops, etc. There is a way to do it without completely bashing the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving us.

Then what are those 99.9795% of officers doing to combat the "bad apples" that spoil the bunch? What kind of police reform is going to occur? If they are not actively working within their ranks to weed out racists and retrain and reform their actions, then I don't really care. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.

That’s where I agree and it relates to my comment about the culture of silence. Police officers aren’t easily able to turn in a fellow officer. There was just an article I read today about a woman officer in Buffalo who was fired for stopping another officer for a headlock or something. She just got her job back luckily.
So the “code of silence” is certainly something to change. It hurts good officers.

Real reform. Not this ******** and certainly not what they consider reform in suffolk county. Law enforcement - the entirety of the institution and practice - is racist, period. You might not like to hear it but oh well. I don't believe in hero worship. I'd much rather never see another white cop again in my life. Don't trust a single one.
