first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
am I the only person who doesn't care about it being just the three of us?
I am having a party at my house on Sat for my birthday and I am sure we will have crashers, so they will partake in the brunch we'll have the next morning...and as I sit here the idea of this doesn't bother me...
but am I wrong? WILL it bother me on Sunday morning when I have to "share" a spotlight with any other moms in the midst?
or will it just be more special with loved ones also acknowleging how special the day is for me, as well as being acknowleged themselves?( is this a real english sentence? )
anyway, if you thought you didn't care, did you end up regretting it? and those who thought it would be a big deal going in, how did it work out?
TIA

I've always "shared" the day, and I don't mind. We'll be going to my mom's for a BBQ.

You're not the only one.
This is my first Mother's day. But my Mom is still my Mom, too. I want all of us to be together - to me that's the perfect Mother's day.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
no i dont care about it. we do always have some time with just the 3 of us (but thats no different than any other sunday except maybe they spoil me a little ) but the bigger celebration is always with my mom. MIL is OOT but we'd see her too if she were local.
IMO, there's no way i could not see my mom on mothers day and tell her i just wanted to be with my little family. it would break her heart and i wouldnt enjoy it. besides its just the three of us ALL the time...

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
No, I want to spend this time with my family (mother, aunts, grandmother etc). That's the best thing about a holiday in my opinion.
As long as DH takes care of the boys in the morning and lets me sleep until 8am (UNINTERRUPTED which is the key lol)....I will be a very happy Mommy!

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I have always shared it with others and never really thought to do anything different. Mother's Day isn't a big deal to be at all. If I'm surrounded by people I love and who loves me...that is more then enough.

I don't think I care. In fact, I think it will be nice to celebrate with other people. We'll be spending the day with DH's family.
I just wish I could spend my first mothers day with my mom though. She would have just been so in love with my boy!!

My very first mothers day was actually the day that I first woke up to a baby in my house
DC#1 came home on Saturday and that Sunday was mothers day
My mom came to see me that day
That was my greatest mothers day and each one after i really dont care what we do

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
As long as it does not interfere with me sleeping in on that morning then I do not care.
Mother's Day is not a big deal to me anyway because it always gets intertwined with my B-day so I tend to focus on my Birtday more.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
If we were in NY, we'd definitely be celebrating with our moms too! I'd love to host a brunch or lunch or dinner for them.
I'd maybe just want some coffee and a pastry in bed that morning first though

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I have never thought of Mother's day as a "private" holiday. I can't wait to share it with everyone!
We celebrate with ALL the mothers in my family: my sister, cousins, SIL, cousin's wives, aunts. Even my brother's and cousins' MILs are coming! All of the moms get little gifts like flowers or scratch offs and we have a big family party - wouldnt have it any other way!

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
My DH has to work so it'll just be me and Emmy. I am making the choice to NOT visit anybody. My Mom has to work so we'll celebrate on Monday. The plan is to attend church, get some yummy food and then go watch Babies together *fingers crossed* she is good for it. I think that things should change since I am a Mom now and it should start this year. No more $$$$$ sending 9 flower arrangements, no more $$$$ buying gifts. A card and a phone call except for my Mom and MIL. Life has changed and now it's about me too. Maybe it's selfish, but I don't want to "share" this year.

My DH and I live in Nashville and have no family here. We will be spending it alone, and I am sort of sad about it. I would like to be with my mother on my first Mother's day.

I prefer to spend it with our mother's as well. They're still our mother's (and DC's grandmother). JMO.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I hate to put any kind of a damper on this, but I haven't spent a Mother's Day with my mom since 2003, she passed away several months later, and with DH's mom since 2004, when she passed away, so I do think you should see who you want that day, especially your mom or MIL...
I think it's nice that way...see moms in the am or pm, then spend your first with just DC and DH....try to casually split the day...even if you have crashers, they will eventually leave, right?

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I spent my first mothers day with my mother in law, sister in law and DH's immediate family in the afternoon. My mother and the rest of my immediate family in the evening. DD was only a few weeks old, so I didn't really want to go anywhere. They brought over food, some snacks and we all celebrated the day. The Sat before DH and I did have a quiet lunch out while my sister watched DD for us.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I'm more than happy to share - and lucky that both grandma's are fine with spending the day together. If I had to go from one house to another I wouldn't be so agreeable! As long as we can all celebrate together I'm fine. But I'll take breakfast in bed with DH and DD also.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
My very first Mother's Day in 2008 was spent with ME preparing brunch for my mom, my MIL & my SIL (whose own daughter lives in Wisconsin). I was a bit put off by the fact that DH planned nothing and when dinner time rolled around I was getting ready to order pizza because he never thought to plan anything. I managed to get one or two pics with DD that day after begging DH to grab the camera at the very end of the day (I look like hell).
My second mother's day in 2009 was spent talking to my mom on the phone while DH & I took DD to the NY Aquarium because that's what *I* wanted to do. I have a handful of pics.
This year I have no mother to spend Mother's Day with, as she died on March 20. I would give anything to have to share Mother's Day with her and be able to spend even 5 minutes with her. I'm hoping I can sleep the entire day and just ignore it.

I don't really care either, but I did want SOME time just the three of us. DH and I are taking DD out for a special day and then we will be heading to MIL's house for dinner. My mom will be OOT, but if she wasn't, she would be involved somehow as well.

I don't mind "sharing" the day, but I do prefer it to just be the 3 of us. That's what we did last year, and that's what we will do again this year.
I don't regret how we spend my Mother's Day.

I'm so sorry. The first one is so hard - well, hell, they all are, but I've found they do get "less hard" as time passes.
