Daycare question (spin-off, sort of)

This is sort of a spinoff on the other thread but why are some daycares open and some closed?

I use kiddie academy. Prior to pandemic my son would attend pre-k there mon-fri and my daughter would take the bus after school and I paid for her after care. In the summer I would send both. They have been open this whole time (aside from one week when it first started)

Why is that some daycares have closed and others remain open when the government said they were essential and would continue to operate?

We go to Kiddie Academy and they are closed. I think it's not worth it for them to be open. When it first started they asked us to email the director if we would stay if they remained open I am thinking they didn't get enough of a response

That’s so interesting. I guess not enough enrollment. I know they all have different owners. Ours is even advertising a new school age program and they have iPads so the kids can do their online work

some daycare's had to be open for essential workers so my guess is some didn't stay open because it wasn't worth it because they wouldn't have high enrollment

only thing i have for this is that if they are still charging parents full price i hope they have been paying their teachers and if they are charging full price still i would think they would open for any parents that wanted to still send them!

We are basically paying a small weekly fee to hold spot. Nowhere near what the normal cost is...

Daycare question (spin-off, sort of)

My daycare closed because they did not have enough people needing their service. They are reopening on Monday.

Daycares were allowed to remain open but it was up to them if they did or not. Mine stayed open but let go of most of the staff because enrollment was so low. I’m hoping they can bring these people back when things go back to normal.

Daycare question (spin-off, sort of)

Where I am - the daycares that stayed open were mainly in home daycares.

My friend sent her kids to the center that we use for aftercare in the beginning as she and her DH are both essential and there were her two kids there plus 1 or 2 daycare aged kids - so it wasn't cost effective for them to remain open.
