Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

If its outside and the dog is calm and able to just lay down I see no problem with it

If it's part of the restaurant's seating and people are there with food, the dog shouldn't be there.

they usually make you tether them outside of the barrier type thingy. depending on the place, this way its technically not on the restaurants premises.

but your dog is still close to you. not like tethered to some street sign somewhere

Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

Why should it be any different if you're eating outside? Your still sitting at a table among other diners are you not?

I LOVE dogs, but I don't think they belong at restaurants.

that's a NO.

I'm sorry.

what you do at home is your business. if Sparky has his own placemat at your dinner table, fine....

but in public, that's a big NO.

so, if youre out with your dog and need to eat you should starve?

how is it REALLY a bother? seriously. a dog sleeps under your table while you eat OUTSIDE.

YES it IS really a bother.

and I highly doubt you are going to starve. if you will be out all day with your dog, bring some scooby snacks.

or get a slice of pizza.

it's not the time to chill at the cafe.

Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

Dogs are only okay at an outside restaurant (IMO) if there is no partition between the tables and the street or if the dog is on the OUTSIDE of the partition.

I know you love your dogs, but not everyone does. I think pets around food is icky. I'm paying $$ for the luxury of relaxing and having someone prepare and serve my food, so I don't want to have a dog around me making me feel uncomfortable. The way I think about it is if you wouldn't want someone's pet (bird, cat, pig, lizard, whatever) there, you shouldn't bring your pet there.

Well, most restaraunts don't allow dogs, so if people don't like eating around dogs for whatever reason, they have plenty of other places to go. if the restaraunt allows it, go for it.

why does it make a difference if its inside or outside? The dog is still next to the table, possibly getting hair in peoples food.

eta: and what if someone at the next table is extrememly allergic to dogs??

what if their allergic to my perfume? or the flowers on the table?

and there are many hypoallergenic dogs out ther.

I know, and thats why I have one! i am saying dogs in general, not just little hairless dogs. if you have a hairless dog in a carrier thats one thing. but if you can bring your dog out to eat whats going to stop the golden retriever owners from brining theirs? Thats doggie discriminationChat Icon

right, no, i dont think it matters. a dog is a dog, i was just playing devils advocate about the fur and allergry scenario.

I LOVE DOGS!! LOVE THEM!

That said, I'm going to have to answer - no. Dogs should not be at restaurants - in or out.

common doesn't mean it's right.

I walked by a joint on 7th ave (Park Slope) the other day and saw some chick with her dog eating there. completely turned me off...and I LOVE LOVE LOVE dogs.

similar story. some girl got on the train with her dog in a carrier, sat in between two people, and let him out. the lady next to her was allergic, started sneezing and had to get up...and this poor woman was like 75 years old.

the idiot woman just kept on sitting...and kissing her dog.

DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE.

I think if you are eating outside, then that is fine....

i agree, if he / she is just laying down, sitting still and being quiet, no big deal.

I don't want to sit next to anything in a restaurant that isn't wearing underwear and licks it's own privates.

Just my own opinion.

yes, it is a matter of opinion.

BUT, there is a line that has become more and more blurry...what you do in PRIVATE vs. what the greater public is subjected to by you.

If you want to eat with your dogs GREAT...but RESPECT those around you, out having a good time, that had no intentions of eating with Fifi tonight.

why do you feel the need to bring your dog to a restaurant? they don't serve dog food (even if Park Slope!)

I think its also a matter of courtesy for others...but then again, so is giving up your seat for the elderly or pregnant women on the bus or the train, or holding the door for someone or covering your mouth when you sneeze...and all of these things are the "right" thing to do but not everyone does it...let me not even go there.
