I don't want to sit next to anything in a restaurant that isn't wearing underwear and licks it's own privates.

Just my own opinion.

oh man, dont sit next to me then

I think its also a matter of courtesy for others...but then again, so is giving up your seat for the elderly or pregnant women on the bus or the train, or holding the door for someone or covering your mouth when you sneeze...and all of these things are the "right" thing to do but not everyone does it...let me not even go there.

maybe its a "location" thing. Chat Icon

its very common in manhattan and parts of brooklyn. most people are just used to it.

common doesn't mean it's right.

it also doenst mean its wrongChat Icon

obviously its a matter of opinion.

yes, it is a matter of opinion.

BUT, there is a line that has become more and more blurry...what you do in PRIVATE vs. what the greater public is subjected to by you.

If you want to eat with your dogs GREAT...but RESPECT those around you, out having a good time, that had no intentions of eating with Fifi tonight.

why do you feel the need to bring your dog to a restaurant? they don't serve dog food (even if Park Slope!)

hey, dont knock me. if you have a REAL problem with it, go to the restuarants that allow it.
as long as they allow it, people will do it.

(and for the record, ive only brought a dog with me a handful of times to eat.... only becuase we were out and about and hunger stuck.... maybe 3 times total..... but i am VERY respectful of my co-diners when doing so) it isnt alwyas a planned thing. i dont think people usually PLAN on going out to eat and bringing their dogs for the helluva it. to me, that is weird and pointless. if youre out and stop for a quick bite, so be it, but if you plan on it, thats weird to me.

why does it make a difference if its inside or outside? The dog is still next to the table, possibly getting hair in peoples food.

eta: and what if someone at the next table is extrememly allergic to dogs??

For me the difference between inside or outside is that if I choose to eat outside, I am already exposing myself & meal to outdoor elements. If there's a breeze stuff from all over is blowing over me and my meal such as car exhaust, crap on the sidewalk, pollen, etc. A dog could be sitting in front of a the next store and wind could blow dog hair my way.

I honestly don't know. It probably wouldn't bother me if it was a small dog and they were outside with their owners.

My dog is medium sized, but a maniac, I could never bring her to a restaurant.

Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

Doesn't matter to me if it's outside, dogs don't belong at restaurants where people sit down and eat. I just don't see why if there's a possibility that you might get hungary while you are out that you don't just leave the dog at home.

Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

another "just for the record"

i know alot of people probably think of me as this dog snob, but i really am not.

do i enjoy bringing my dogs with me? hell yeah, but i dont go overboard with it. i never do anything that is not allowed. (stores, bars, restaurants, etc) if its allowed then i dont see the problem,

BUT.... i have kicked out PLENTY of dogs from my old bar since wehad a resturant in the back. people would hate me, but i just wouldnt allow it. if they want to sit at the window and have the dog outside, so be it, but if i had a $1 for every person i found at a booth with a dog that i had to kick out i'd be a rich girl.

even if it doesnt bother ME, i know it may bother someone in the next booth over. so to me, sorry but you gotta go.

and by AT i dont mean IN.

i mean, you go to lunch and you have your dog. you sit OUTSIDE with the dog tethered to your chair.

not inside the restaurant.

how do we all feel about this?

Well, since we have gone to brunch with our dogs after the park (which BTW we totally need to do again - I am craving eggs benedict from that little outdoor cafe) I have no problem with it as long as it is outside. Inside I think goes too far.

As another poster said, by eating outside you are aware that you are exposing yourself to the elements - smokers, cars & trucks passing, people walking by, and yes, even some with dogs. If the dog is well behaved and does not bother the other diners, then I see no problem with it.

so, if youre out with your dog and need to eat you should starve?

how is it REALLY a bother? seriously. a dog sleeps under your table while you eat OUTSIDE.

But not everyone is OK with that... I notice that when there is seating outside of a rest. you're much closer to the table next to you than you would be inside.

And Jess, you know I have Cooper, so if he's coming with me somewhere I usually grab something to eat and stick it in my bag or I'm prepared to go thru a drive thru.

Re: debate: Dogs at restuarants

It wouldn't bother me personally- outside- but I could definitely see that it could possibly bother people- and they would have every right to that complaint.

It wouldnt bother me provided that the dog was well behaved. If it was barking or begging for food - I would be annoyed because it would distract me.
