FTM who never changed a diaper here!...
What's the purpose of powder/ointment? Can you just use wipes and call it a day when you change?
yes you can. Powder absorbs excess moisture and ointment provides a barrier from the pee/poop against the babies skin

BTDT here - Pampers Swaddlers and Huggies Natural Care wipes - the wipes are big, thick and unscented and IMHO better than Pampers wipes.
This! I'm probably going to have to switch after size 2 to Target diapers. Don't think I can afford the Pampers with twins . It definitely stinks b/c I find them so much softer.
For diaper rashes I like to use Triple Paste. If the rash gets really bad, I put a layer of Aquaphor on top of the Triple Paste. This usually clears it right up.

Re: Diaper changing plans
We used Pampers Swaddlers in the beginning because they have the line in the front that tells you if they are wet.
Once DS outgrew the largest size that came in we used Earth's Bests Diapers. Then we switched to Huggies after he turned a year - he's 2.5 now and still in them.
We only used cream if he had a rash. Same with powder.
We used (still use) California Baby or Mustela diaper area wash for poop diapers. It just makes it extra clean until he can get a bath, takes the smell away - sorry TMI

Re: Diaper changing plans
We always used Swaddlers for my DS and plan to do the same this time around. As for wipes, we used Pampers Sensitive wipes in the beginning and as he got older, we switched to the regular Pampers wipes. I didn't use any ointment on my DS at all... When he got red or was extra wet, I'd use Cornstarch/Aloe/Vitamin E baby powder and he never ever got rashes. I still use Pampers Cruisers and Cornstarch/Aloe/Vitamin E on him and he's 2.5.

Re: Diaper changing plans
Am I the only one who has no freaking clue??? I never thought of having a plan for this!
I guess whatever diapers are on sale or whatever seems to work best in the beginning. I have a container of Pampers wipes that I got as a present, so I will definitely use those, then after that I have no idea, I guess if I like the brand I will get more of the same. I don't know about powder & ointment.

Re: Diaper changing plans
We are actually going to give cloth diapering a go -- part time. But for the first month or so mostly disposable diapers.
My mom bought us a mess load of diapers in a variety of kinds so ...we'll just go with what we have and then decided what we like best -- then that's what we'll use to supplement in between using/washing our cloth stash.

Re: Diaper changing plans
With DD used pampers diapers and huggies wipes. Only used ointment when necessary and used A&D. Plan to do the same. After awhile, your lucky to change the diaper, nevermind being all cute about it

Diaper changing plans
In hospital they used Huggies and Vaseline. We used Huggies nb then switched to target nbs. We still use Vaseline at every change. Keeps the poop from sticking to her butt. Love target unscented wipes and have been using those since she came home. The bru brand we have too by once those run out it'll be back to target brand. I know too many people that had problems with pampers so staying away from those but every baby is different. Don't stress. You will be amazed how quickl you learn about diapers, wipes and ointments. It's been a month and neither of us even blink when it comes to diapers anymore.
