did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics? UPDATE: file this in the weird but true notebook
I am so confused. mine is tomorrow and when my doc gave me the script, she said
fast until the appt. you will go there, they will take blood. then you go have your breakfast and two hours later they will take blood again.
I had already been in my dr's office for 5 hours at that point so I was just barely paying attention, but after that I was so confused.
I thought I drink something, then get blood drawn after an hour.
unless Quest does it differently. I didn't get a drink either. nothing. just the Rx for the test.
UPDATE:
so apparently my dr is not nuts.
at 9:00 I had two vials of blood extracted from my arm, "fasting" blood.
I was then sent to have a normal breakfast. after my last bite or sip, I had to note the time (9:32). I have to go back to the lab at 11:32 to get my next blood drawn.
and that is my test.
I'd much rather have had a plate of eggs, toast and potatoes than a bottle of glucose

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I took it a Quest and this is NOT how they did it, lol. You do have to fast - then they take your blood when you first get there, you drink the stuff and you wait there until the hour is over and they take it again. You are not allowed to eat, drink or leave...
eta: they only took my blood first at the 3 hour test - the one hour they just give you the drink (and you have to drink it in a certain amount of time) and wait the hour.

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I did but.. I had to fast from midnight and I went in the morning. They took my blood when I first arrived, had me drink the glucose drink there and wait there an hour and they took my blood again (exactly one hour after drinking it).
Those instructions seem weird. It is usually 1 hour or 3 hours..not 2.

I took mine at Quest. I went they took blood, gave me the drink and took more blood an hour later.
I would call your dr's office back and have them explain what they want you to do again.

Same exact thing I was going to say. I went iin the impression I can bring dd with me drink the stuff and then drop dd off at the babysitter's house. They told me I could not leave. You need to be inactive while waiting. She explained that if I left my body would be working the glucose off and give an inaccurate result.

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I did it at labcorp but I am almost 100% certain it is the same way.
I had dinner the night before. I stopped eating or drinking at 8 pm (12 hours before the test). The next morning I got to the blood draw place at 8 am they gave me the drink. You have either fruit punch or orange. IMO the orange tastes better. You have 5 minutes to drink the drink. You have to tell the nurse/receptionist the moment you have finished drinking the drink. You then wait one hour from the moment you finished the drink. 5 minutes before your one hour is up you tell the nurse so that she can get you in a room to draw your blood. They take your blood. You can eat after they draw your blood. I would bring food with you and a drink for after the test. HTH

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I had the same test you had-both pregnancies. fast, blood, eat, blood -No drinking that stuff. Its what my doc ordered, I asked why and she said my urine samples showed no need for the other one.

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I took my 3 hr at Quest, I had to fast at least 10 hrs prior to taking the test. I got there and they drew my blood, as a baseline I guess, then I had to drink the glucose drink and wait an hour, I couldn't drink any water or eat anything in between, then I got my blood drawn again, wait another hr...etc.
It's strange that your dr told you that....is this for the 1hr glucose test or 3hr?

Re: did anyone take their Glucose test at Quest Diagnostics?
I took mine at Quest Diagnostics also, but my instructions were very different. The one hour glucose tolerance test consisted of not eating breakfast the morning of the test having blood drawn, drinking that syrupy gross drink, waiting an hour then having more blood drawn...

Usually the first is the one hour. I do have a friend who had to take the 3 hour as her first because she had diabetes in the family (parent had it).

I have Quest;
(No fasting) Walked in, she gave me the drink. I drank it and looked at the clock when I finished it. I told the girl when 1 hour was up and I had blood drawn. I left.

This is what it says on quests website(looks the same as what Cakes did):
http://www.questdiagnostics.com/kbase/topic/medtest/hw44896/howdone.htm
The tab that says how to prepare says no preparation needed for the 1 hour.
Maybe you can call your md to clarify, i know my office gave me written instructions as well as verbal, it was in the packet with the hospital pre-registration forms. I did mine at my doctors office. My appt was for 5pm at 3pm I had to stop eating and drinking at 4 pm I had to drink 5oz(1/2 of the bottle) within 5 minutes and when I got to the doctor's office at 5pm they took my blood. I think since your appt is early you can go in fasting-I am sure they will then give you the drink and tell you what to do.

that's not how they do it at my quest.
i already HAVE the drink sitting in my fridge waiting for the day of my test! they gave it to me on the day of my last blood work. they said i do NOT have to sit there. i am to drink it at home and come in by 15 minutes before the blood has to be drawn.
i didn't do it this way last time--last time i stayed there. but this time they offered it to me so of course i said yes.
ETA: i guess this thread goes to show that every lab seems to do things differently and you should call your personal lab to see how they do things
