Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
My DH turned the car seat around in his car because he said my DD's legs were hitting the back seat.
Makes me nervous!

DD's legs are hitting the back seat too, but she doesn't seem to mind. She's in the 90th percentile for height, but I'm still going to leave her rear facing until she's 2.

DS is 15 months and still sits rear facing. He legs definately touch the seat - he pretty much sits indian style.
We'll turn face forward closer to 20 months.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
Kids are very comfortable with their legs bent. If given a choice, that's usually how most kids prefer to sit.
There has never been a documented case of a child breaking a leg because they were RF and their legs were touching the back seat, or were bent. There have been countless documented cases of DC being severely injured because they were turned around before their necks were mature enough to support their heads in a low-speed (30 mph) collision.

We turned DS forward facing at 17 months. He kicked and screamed and fought us when we tried to put him in. Hes very tall so i think he was just uncomfy.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
We turned jack this memorial day when he was about 17mo old. at the time, the recommendation for waiting until 2 hadnt come out yet; we were still using the 1yr or whatever weight it was at the time as our guideline. He was well over the weight/height and we were taking a long trip so we decided to turn him.

With DD - age 1 was the recommendation (2007-2008).
With DS we changed him around 15-16months.

It's okay for their legs to hit the back seat. They are probably still comfortable.
Loey has always been a big kid and we waited until 2 to turn him. His legs have been hitting the back since before he was a year old

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
Probably at 15 months we switched her.
DD @ 2 now is at the 90th % for height and weight. No way could I have left her rear facing.
My son I will try to keep longer but we will see. He's 13 months now and still fine.
I dont think anyone (child or adult) is comfortable sitting with their knees in their chest.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
My first was turned at 11 months (regulation back in 2010 was 1 yr, 20lbs). We turned bc we were bringing the new baby home & moved my DS to the other side if car.
My youngest, who's 17 months now was changed.to forward facing at 1 yr. I'm confident with my decision plus my youngest was a nightmare rear facing

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
I turned DD at 18 months before the recommendation came out.
DS I turned at 18 months also even though the recommendation is two. He is a big kid and I was comfortable with my decision.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
DS will be 22 months soon and is still rear facing. His feet have been touching the back since we put him in the convertible carseat. They are way more flexible at that age than adults are so what looks uncomfortable to us isn't for them. No matter their weight or height, physiologically they are all the same and the recommendation for rear facing is due to what their bodies can and can't sustain in a forward facing accident. Not worth it to me.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
With my first child, the recommendation was 1 yr so we turned jim just over 1 yr. He was over the 100 percentile.
Now that the recommendations have changed, I am waiting until 2 yrs to turn the twins. They are 17 months and it is getting very hard to put them in, but we are sticking it out bc it is safer for them.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
Dd was 15 months. I was trying to hold off but she was a nightmare rf and is so much better now. It would affect my driving and our safety when she would scream for hours on a long car ride. She is much better now.

Re: Did anyone turn the car seat around before 2 years old?
Yes for DD, she was 1 in 2007 and that was the recommendation, she we turned her.
With DD #2, we held out as long as we could and changed her around 17 months. She was taking herself out of the car seat straps, no matter how tight we put them, and turning herself around to face us. We felt it was safer facing forward for that reason.
