I absolutely did and plan on doing it for our next child too. You never know what will happen in life and I always want to be prepared!

Yes, we did...for both of our children.

And for DS, we also banked cord tissue, which is currently in Stage 4 trials for treating commonplace ailments like heart disease, diabetes, etc.

That's great. Was this recent? I don't think I had the option to bank anything except cord blood but I realize that the tissue also has stem cells.

It's been a while but when we banked, the progress for using cord blood to treat diabetes looked very promising. There was also some progress on a study to replicate stem cells but you still need to have them in order to replicate them.

I am not sure if we would have banked if my DH was not diabetic but I did my research. I am aware that the cord blood companies profit tremendously I would have felt that it was totally unfair to him if we did not look into this and then decide to do it.

Yes, DS is only 2 1/2 weeks old.

When we called CBR to order the kit for DS, they sent us an information sheet on it. I was ready to write it off but DH really researched it and was absolutely blown away by the trials they are doing and have done already. I didn't realize that "Stage 4 trials" means that they have already had success multiple times using the cord tissue for some of those common ailments. It was only an additional $750 to bank cord tissue, so we did it.

We donated my first son's cord blood. Would've donated my 2nd son's too but he was born on a Saturday and they don't take donations on Saturday at North Shore.

No for #1 because my OB practice was not totally on board. Yes for #2 because 2 years later 2 babies were saved in the practice from their own cord blood. My banked cord blood for Chat Icon can help save the life of my Chat Icon .
