Did your parents have a mini van or station wagon?

My parents did not and not many of my friend's parents either.

When we have kids we do not plan on buying one. I really don't see the need for it.

No, my parents did not.

However, the safety guidelines have changed (for the better), and children are required to be in car seats for much longer. They take up a lot of space, hence the need for bigger vehicles.

My mom had a station wagon that was pea green inside and out ,and vinyl seats ,so everytime you got in ,in the summer you would burn your butt Good ol' 70's

I have 3 kids and I have a minivan ,and I need and love all the room in it, especially for road trips !

Neither - we had a blue Ford Maverick two door sedan and then a VW Bus.

I was born in 1966, so my parents had a gold chevy station wagon. My friend's mom had the one with the fake wood panels on the side.
The back either had two bench seats that flipped up so you faced each other, or a back seat that faced backwards.
So cool.

Station wagon when I was a teenager. 3 kids at the time

Minivan before I moved out. My little brother came along. So we were 4 kids. We could not all fit in 1 sedan with stroller, etc...

They had a station wagon. We used to riding in the way back of it without our seatbelts on long road trips !! Could you imagine doing that in this day and age???

station wagon OH i remember the days of no car seats or seat belts, etc - just flying back and forth in the back. How the hell did we survive? HAHAHA

I am not a minivan person, neither were my parents.

My parents had a station wagon until 1982, when they bought a Honda Civic. At that time they had 6 kids, (the 7th came in 1983) the oldest was 17 at the time and had his own car, so on the rare occasions that everyone was going to the same place we'd take multiple cars They also had a Riviera which could hold 5 kids and two adults (this is pre-seatbelt laws, by 1984 2 siblings were away at college and one more was driving).

Ha! That was all we ever had!

My dad and stepmom had a couple of station wagons and we also had a full size van for a period. They had to accommodate 7 people (2 adults and 5 kids) and we road-tripped everywhere. My dad modified the back of the van with a carpeted platform and we played games and slept back there while they drove. Imagine that now?

The station wagon was the car I drove when I first got my license until I got my own car. I got a speeding warning in it and my dad was shocked that I could get it going that fast.

No.

I would like to get an SUV type car. Like the Acura RSX or something along those lines. My friends with kids say the extra room is helpful for stroller and other kid accesories.

My dad had a Chevy Nova and I think at one point we fit 10 of my friends into it! LOL

Mini vans didn't exist when i was a kid..it was either the big a$$ conversion van or a station wagon, my friend had a van & we loved when her dad drove...my brothers & I were smooshed in the back of a Ford LTD Crown Vic for any family travels...i keep telling my niece & nephews how good they have it!

yea no bike helmets, people who wore helmets were made fun of. We also ate glue and had lead pencils, etc. Oh and forget about Organic foods - processed = good when I was a kid.

But riding backwards was sooooo much fun!

My parents had regular cars (Lincoln Continentals, Grand Prix) w/ the seatbelts cut out!

I swore I'd never be a minvan mom...BUT once the 2nd came along, my Jetta got pretty small. We considered an SUV but it was a hassle getting kids in/out, having to reach up & in. The minivan is so convenient & great w/ the automatic doors. I love it!

My parents had a regular sedan. But they also didn't have car seats, booster seats or require us to wear seatbelts.. so i can't really use them as a good gage with relevance to what I should do!

I have a 4 door Taurus and it's just fine for our family of 4. I will say that if we had a 3rd child we probably would have opted for something roomier.
