Dilemma...need some advice - UPDATE

When I moved into my current apartment the landlord had told me no cats because the litter is no good for the pregnancy....I've been living there for over a year and haven't asked since. My coworker has kittens and I want one sooooo bad, and keep in mind I am looking to move within the next 6 months anyway.
Should I:

a)take the kitten and not mention it to the landlord...then if she finds out just say I didn't think I had to ask b/c she wasn't pregnant anymore.

b)ask the landlord and risk her saying no and not being able to take the kitten.

My lease ran out and I never resigned, and no where in the lease was it even mentioned that pets weren't allowed.

I really want to just take the kitten and hopefully move out before they notice.

WWYD?

I would run it by her since she said no pets. What would you do if you sneak in the kitten and the landlord found out and said you or the cat has to go?

Re: Dilemma...need some advice

If your lease doesn't have any provisions about pets, I wouldn't even say anything.

None of their business IMO if you aren't breaking any terms in your lease.

Make sure you read the fine print.

ETA: Actually I just realized you are on a month to month now without a lease. I am not sure if I would do this now because if the landlord doesn't like this they can give you 30 days and evict you.

If I was you I'd make sure I could quickly get alternate pet-friendly living arrangements in case she kicks you out.

Otherwise I wouldn't do it without asking.

I wouldn't do it without asking. If you're going to take on the responsibility of pet ownership, then you owe it to the kitty to make sure he or she can stay with you without any problems.

I'd ask!

I would ask

I didn't tell my landlord about my cats

and on the first day - she came over to say hi- and so did Maggie my kitten

thank goodness she LOVED her

I was sick to my stomach!- not worth it

Re: Dilemma...need some advice

You should ask - If she didn't want the litter around while she was pregnant, she may not want cat hair around the baby ..........

It wouldn't be fair to her, or to the cat if you couldn't keep it -

Re: Dilemma...need some advice - UPDATE

ooh congrats on the new kitty!

I have had my cat in a pet-free building for over a year. The super has come into our apt to do work and my cat is all "what's up, i'm totally chilling and illegal" and my super is all "whatever cat."

Glad you got to get your pet out in the open!
