Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
WE stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. It was small which was nice. I didn't really like it that much (in terms of hotel room quality)and next time we will likely stay at a "better" resort.

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
We're staying at the Dolphin. It's walking distance to Epcot and in disney, but not a disney hotel, so it's cheaper. Looks really nice with characters, restaurants, pools, activities, etc. Haven't been yet!

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
Do you have a budget? If not, choose one of the monorail resorts for stroller convenience.

Disney Resort Recommendations Please
I've only stayed at the Contemporary. It felt like a convention place (and that's what I was there for). The monorail went right through the hotel, but it would pull into our stop completely packed so we didn't take it.
Here is a website I like for Disney info. www.mousesavers.com

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
I've stayed at the carribean beach one. It was ok. Nice short trip by bus, but the rooms were pretty old and if it were outside of Disney, it would cost $50 a night.
Personally, I would stay longer, do half days, and out of Disney rather than staying there.

I always stay at French Quarter.
I stayed at one of the All Star thingies and HATED it! Talk about sub quality. I forget the name of it but it was horrible. Long haul to the bus stop, I had to get a new room because there was shaving cream on the walls, phone, etc. YUCk!
Yes, French Quarter is a smaller property, which is why I love it. Short walk to the bus and always first on and off. I love the boat ride to Downtown Disney (so did AJ).
But i will agree.. the rooms are just 'ok'. Nothing too fancy at all. I get the King Size bed so we have a door to the bathroom vs the double which has a vanity at the end of the room and the toliet and bath are doored off. The double has a curtain to separate the area and next to the vanity is the place to hang stuff (if I remember correctly) at the King Size it had a nice Armour.
Stilll, I have NO plans to hang out in my room for anything other than sleep. So it was fine. The pools are great the food is good and its quiet and friendly with a nice garden area. AJ loved walking through the gardens chasing lizards or running while in their large green lawn they have (later set up for movies on the lawn at night).
Sure its not fancy but I'd rather save my money and get all the perks of staying on property while spending my money in the parks instead of that place I sleep in. PS: Beds are comfy and its nice to have the towels set up as animals too! lol

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
We liked Polynesian. The monorail is supposedly very convenient although the one day that we tried to go to MK for extra magic hours in the morning, the monorail was down. We basically wasted the extra magic hour trying to get to MK. I don't think Polynesian guests take the bus to MK so all the buses kept passing us. It was frustrating. The food at Polynesian was great. We loved Ohana and got pineapple dole whip ice cream daily. Yum! We watched the fireworks from the Polynesian beach. It was a good time.
I really loved the theming of Art of Animation. We will probably stay there next.

We loved loved loved Animal Kingdom Lodge! Everyone will tell you its far away etc but we really didnt think so at all. 14 min to MK most times!! never more than 20. The food at the Hotel was Even their quick service place which normally I wouldnt even touch, was good.. it was a BEAUTIFUL resort!
I do agree though Poly seems EXTRA convenient. We also love all the places to eat in the Poly. We ate Breakfast at 'Ohana, dinner at 'Ohana and breakfast at Kona Cafe (which was AWESOME!).

We just got back from the French Quarter and had a great stay!!! The food was good, the food court was clean, the staff was overly friendly, and the property and pool are very well kept. Yes, it is small and the rooms are just basic rooms, but all we did was sleep in them... literally. We were out at the parks all day, came back for 1-2 hours for my DS nap time and then we were out again until 10pm. The prices were WAY better than other resorts that we looked into and we honestly didn't need any of the extra amenities that the deluxe resorts offered. If you are going down there and plan to spend time at the resort, then I agree FQ may not be your best choice. But if you just need a place to call home during your stay, I would totally look into the resort!!

I seriously think I had the two best breakfasts of my life at the Polynesian. The tonga toast at Kona Cafe was seriously amazing as was the pineapple bread at the Ohana breakfast. That is saying a lot because I love breakfast/brunch food.

Disney Resort Recommendations Please
We loved Animal Kingdom. Rented a car, so can't speak for the busses but it seemed akl was just a few more minutes away and not soooo far like people say. The only pita was mk bc you had to take the tram to the monorail. We did each park one day so I would not stay at a monorail resort just for mk convenience. jmo. My kids LOVED theanimals of the balcony.

Disney Resort Recommendations Please
We just stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in December. I wrote a review on the Travel board. It was absolutely gorgeous and we had a great time. It's less expensive than a monorail resort, but you can just hop on the boat to the Magic Kingdom. Highly recommend it.

Thank you all for your responses! I haven't had a chance to log in since last night and was hoping that at least one person responded, so thanks!
Polynesia seems to get the most positive reviews...I will look into it.
How many days would you say is perfect for a trip with a 3 year old?

Just an FYI the rooms at the Polynesian are SO outdated. It's ridiculous actually for the money you pay to stay there. The grounds are beautiful though.

The rooms are just ok. That's true. But, that's not what you are paying for. The convenience of the hotel is AMAZING. AMAZING. You literally push your stroller out of your room, onto the elevator, out of the elevator onto the monorail and in a few minutes like five minutes you are at the magic kingdom -no opening and closing the stroller, no hassles! At park closing - equally easy - no long lines, no shoving onto the ferry, no waiting for the bus forever etc. ANd all the amenities are right there including amazing restaurants, luau and being able to see the magic kingdom fireworks right on property.

Personally speaking I don't want to stay in a room that hasn't been renovated since the 70's. Regardless what the grounds and amenities are. I would choose the Grand Floridan or the Contemporary, or BLT before I chose the Poly, soley because of the rooms. Different strokes for different folks though. Updated decor is a huge thing for me when traveling.

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
hands down my favorite is the Beach Club which is connected to the Yacht Club, and the Boardwalk..it is also connected to EPCOT. i absolutely love the atmosphere here. it's beautiful to look at, the pool is amazing and so much fun. we enjoy going to EPCOT at night for illuminations so that's another reason we like staying here. We usually rent a car too so we drive to the poly and take the monorail to the MK, which is really convenient and nice.

We have stayed at the Yacht Club a couple of times, and their pool is amazing. Great for little kids

Well while I agree they need a more updated look this simple isn't accurate. The entire resort was refurbished in 2002. All were redesigned in 2005-2007. I think they are doing redesign again now. In fact, they added several new buildings to the poly and those buildings are only 3 years older than the Grand Flordian. I could be wrong but I think the garden rooms were rehabbed even longer ago at the Contemporary. We have friends who stay both the contemporary and the poly who say the rooms are cleaner nicer at the poly.
I do agree they are dark and the decore is one you love or hate but they are not rooms that haven't changed since 1970. But IMHO you are paying for those three hotels for their convenience more so than the fact that they are "amazing" hotels. I think I heard for less or equal money you can stay at a real top hotel like the four seasons nearby. But you don't get the real perk of the monorails which for many is the reason to stay, or the ability to walk to the MK which is what several people I know pick the contemporary for.

That DOES sound convenient!!! Is there a certain park/part of park that is ideal for a toddler? This will be my first trip there as well!

Re: Disney Resort Recommendations Please
I guess I should add that I am a person who gets skeeved really easily and would not be happy staying at a place that seems like it needs a good washing lol Some of these descriptions of the Poly are making me want to clean it! Is this a concern? How are the restaurants?
