well, yes and no.
i personally would name my child whatever DH and i want. it's our decision.
however, if i'm getting a majority negative reaction from people, i would reconsider the name. i wouldn't want my DC going through life with people thinking he/she has an ugly/weird/etc name. but that's me

Yes and no. I do not plan on telling anyone in real life (i'll tell the boards!) our names because I don't want opinions beforehand. However, there was a name that both DH and I really liked and never told anyone - but my mom wound up having a kid in her class with that name and has made numerous comments about how much she dislikes the name (this was before I was PG - though she said it again today!). Even though it is not entirely out of the running, it bothers me that my mom hates it.

Exactly. The only reason I care about what other people think is because it *may* be what the kid also thinks. So, I will listen to why people don't like the name. If there's a good reason, or if it really seemed like everyone didn't like the name, I might think twice. Other than that, I don't care what others think. A lot of people had issues with the spelling of my DD's name. Her name is Lilah, and a lot of people said they didn't like the "h" and really wanted us to spell it Lila. But we liked the "h", and it came from a song and had meaning, so although we listened and considered, we stuck with what we wanted and didn't care what others thought.

It is not a weird name at all ...just a few people think I should be choosing "a better" name
i'm not saying yours is weird
it's just if i am getting tons of negative reactions, i know DC would get those (although they'd probably be behind his back)

Would I care - honestly yes -as in it would make me sad if people told me they didn't like it.
But, I would still use it if it was what DH and I liked.
This is a big part of the reason we are not sharing at all. That way if people don't like it, I'm holding onto the hope that once it's born, they will be less likely to make negative comments since it's already done.

I guess I am just over sensitive..I know I would never tell someone "oh I dont like that name" or "keep thinking" its just hurtful...I havent liked names in the past and have never said anything.. We aren't telling people for that reason! Everyone has an opinion and we don't want to hear it! Actually we have a few names in mind and haven't decided yet, but we plan on telling people the day she is born.

I don't care if anyone doesn't like it. The only person whose opinion matters to me is DH.
In any case, we kept the name a secret until DD was born...so nobody could say anything about it then since it was already a done deal!

Yes and no! It depends on who doesn't like it, if it is someone really close to me doesn't like my mom or sister I get a little upset. Everyone loves our girl name and it's a definite, but we are having trouble thinking of boy names!!
I learned not to ask for too many opinions

no we didnt care.! my MIL and my sister didnt really care for our dd's name when we told them what we picked way b4 she was born. i was surprised and was annoyed about it, but was not going to change the name we chose because of their comments, too bad!

I think initially when we would throw names around I would get annoyed when people didn't like a name. Once we decided on her name, we loved it so much that we didn't care what others thought.

Yes & no. I won't change the nany name that we have chosen if people don't like it but it will make me upset.

i couldnt care less what others thought of the name we choose. There are plenty of people who have chose names for their children that I dont like. Ofcourse i would NEVER tell someone that. But ultimately the name of their kid doenst change my life as mush as the name of my kid wont change theirs
