Do you donate blood?

Yes or No? Why or Why not?

I have always been a blood and organ donor but lately I am sick to my stomach thinking of the companies that profit from donations people are making.

Wondering how many people "in need" are actually getting it as opposed to people who are profiting otherwise. I'm thinking of not doing either anymore.

I did it once and almost passed out. It made me very dizzy and ill for the rest of the day. So unfortunately, that was the first and last time for me.

No, I would love to but I am anemic and cannot.

I donated blood every 12 weeks for a while with Long Island Blood Services. But then i was pregnant with DS so it stopped. I donated once several months after he was born (DH and I did this for mets tickets LOL... we ended up not being able to go to the game). And now TTC for #2 so I won't donate.

It's quick, easy, free and could save someone's life. I think if you're eligible, healthy, and it doesn't make you sick... it's a great mitzvah. Unfortunately blood is not something that can be made in a lab, so if people didn't donate, there would be no blood supply for when a loved one needed a transfusion. Pay it forward... you could need blood one day!

I don't, I'm not eligible because I received a blood transfusion years ago. My brother donates I think 3 or 4 times a year. I think it is a great thing to do and would do it if I could.

Yes, I've done it multiple times and would do it again.

I never got sick or light-headed or anything, but I know a few people who did.

I should.. but I dont. I'm O+

I dont mind getting shots but IVs normally make me nervous and the idea of sitting there hooked up to a tube and a bag is just not something id like to do. I only thought of doing it once.. and that was post 9/11 but my tattoo was too fresh.

ive never donated before because getting blood drawn was my worst nightmare... but now that ive learned to deal with it i may donate in the future.

I donate. It is life saving. Why do you think companies profit from blood donation? It is my understanding that the NY Blood Center is a nonprofit.

I donate all the time. I think it is a wonderful thing to do. This reminds me that I am eligible to donate now and need to get in there.

I am also an organ donor and am on the national list for bone marrow donation in the event I ever am a match for someone.

I always think "what if I needed blood? What if I needed an organ? What if I needed a bone marrow transplant?"

I would hope there are people out there who would do the same. It's amazing to think that you can possibly help save someone's life.

Yes, every 2 months! It is a very quick and easy way to possibly save a life!

i donate...i'm a universal donor so i'm always getting email reminders to do it! never had an issue with it. i think it's important - if god forbid myself or a family member needed blood i would hope they would be able to receive it.

not sure what companies are profiting? I donate to NY blood center, they are non profit.

I don't, and its because I am seriously deathly afraid of needles. I had a very bad experience with a dr as a kid and remember it, and now I am terribly scare of drs.

But, I have to say I want to thank anyone who donates. My father has recieved countless blood transfusions.

My mom donates all the time.

Keep donating. I have family that benefit from it on a monthly basis! It does save lives!!

I do, but it has been awhile since I'm still nursing my son. When I last donated I was notified that I was a good candidate to donate platelets so I will be doing that next time.

Oh, I'm also listed as an organ donor.

yes, normally 4 times a year. Now I'm pregnant so I won't be donating until the fall.

I used to do it regularly before I got pregnant the first time- then I was breastfeeding, and then got pregnant again, and then breastfeeding again... I haven't done it since, and that was over four years ago. Its really time for me to start doing it again.

I always did but once we got married we started to travel all the time and the countries we visit are always on the no donations accepted if you visited there list. So we can never do it.

I did once in high school. Otherwise, no. I'm absolutely terrified of needles - mostly b/c they can never get the needle into my veins. I had to go for bloodwork on Friday and I ended up with a nasty bruise on my hand and my arm looking like I was a heroin addict. It took multiple people to do it too.

I'm gonna get on my high horse now so i apologize in advance. I am anemic too but that is no excuse...if I get rejected cuz my iron is too low I take my vitamins and eat dark leafy food that night then I go back the next day! It saves lives and you never know when you or someone you love will need that help. I gave religiously before I was pregnant and I was also a marrow donor. This is something you can do that costs you nothing. So bring an I pod and take the 30min to save a life. Its a little pintch and im a baby when it comes to pain. If you get dizzy during tell them and the nurses/techs will take steps to help you. Then sit afterwords for 15 min and stock up on the free cookies and juice so you don't have to worry about getting dizzy or passing out.
