Is this for elementary? Conferences are before 1st trimester ends, report cards right before Christmas break. But they do go over September MAP test scores at the conference (and those results were sent home prior to the conference)

We get it at our conference but I think it should be given out at least the day before. It gives parents time to process the information and come prepared for the meeting instead of being caught off guard the day of. It would be more productive to have a chance to look everything over before hand.

We have the conference first in November or early december, and get a progress report at that time. And then we get the report card right before the Xmas break.

Thank you. I feel exactly the same way. I want to inquire why they do it this way but don't want to make waves.

Ours are given at the conference for elementary.
I have no problem with it. I look it over and ask any questions. Though the report card really doesn't matter to me - especially since 4's (A) aren't ever give first trimester - pretty much means nothing to me knowing this.

Honestly, my oldest is only in first so I've only actually been through it in kindergarten and I'm not stressing her grades at this point. I'm not sure at what point I would worry about report card grades at the elementary level unless there were real concerns. I'd hope that if there were concerns, it would be discussed well before the end of a trimester. All that being said, it would be nice to have it at least a day or two before so I could be better prepared bc I'm not great at processing and asking right on the spot.

I actually find it odder these conferences are so early in the year. I’d prefer them after the 2nd marking period when they’ve had more time to get to know and observe each child more closely.

Not necessarily a Long Island problem, but I know a lot of city schools have to do it during since that is the only way the parents will show up to the conferences.

We don't get ours till after conferences which is kind of dumb. We only get 3 a year now.
I don't get why conferences are so early they should either have 2 a year or one a little later in the year.

We don't get paper report cards. They are not available online til after most parent conferences. This year I am doing my conference by phone.

our school sends them out about a week prior. I think parents prefer that so they can have a chance to see the grade, discuss the grade with their child, and come to conferences prepared with any questions

My son is in 6th and goes to a city school and we get them the day before. Some get them the week before. I have never heard of this before.
