Do you let your baby (4-5-6 months) sleep with something?
The other day, after DH had Ryan for the day, he tells me, "he needs a snuggly or something to sleep with - he wants one". I'm thinking did Ryan tell you that?
Then yesterday I'm at my mom's putting Ryan in for a nap in the pack n play and my 3-yr old sister points out the snuggly (a little security blanket) that I leave over there for him (for the car seat - I had instructed my mom not to put it in when he naps). I tried to soothe Ryan into his nap but he was fussy so I put the snuggly up to his face, he grabs it and voila night night.
So, he does like a snuggly. Interesting, who knew DH was right. But, I'm nervous having something in the crib with him. I checked him during that nap every 10-minutes.
Should I just relax and let him have a snuggly or is it dangerous?
ETS: It's something like this

I wouldnt but that is just my opinion. Maybe you can take it away once he falls asleep.

So funny you posted this! Athan, now all of a sudden, wants to hold a receiving blanket when he is in his car seat or when he is laying down. He lays it up over him near his cheek. I was wondering if it's OK to let him do this as well. I don't mind when he is awake and in his car seat... but not sure about sleeping. It's funny because when he was fussing in the car, my mom said "Give him one of his blankets" and I was like what are you talking about? But it worked. He grasped it in his little hands, played with it a bit, and then Guess yia-yia knows best! HA!

I think it depends on the child. My dd is sooo not ready for anything even now.. she thinks everything is used to play "peek a boo" and im afraid if she does when no ones there and falls asleep with on her face...
It all depends on the child.

Again our boys are so similar!
Dylan loves to rub something against his face when he's falling asleep. I give him a baby washcloth to hold. It settles him down and keeps him from scratching his face with his fingernails. I usually go in a few min later and take it away. But its small enough that I'm not too worried about it.

Jessee, I let Nina fall asleep with a little tiny blankie but I take it away when she falls asleep. She needs to put something over her eyes to fall asleep.

So he's napping with one now - I just looked in the monitor - he has is tight in his hand but halfway under his body (not up against his face). So he probably likes having something to hold on to. Dare I go take it away now that he's sleeping? I think he gets to keep it now and I'll just monitor him. I think naptime is different too - that I can watch. Maybe I'll let him have it for naps but take it away at night.

My DS is 6 months today and he has wanted something to sleep with for the last month. I use the same little lion thing for him and he loves it. He also like to hold a little blanket. I let him do it b/c it helps him sleep better. the blanket is very small and light. I was nervous about it at first, but he sleeps from 9:30 -7, and there has never been an issue.

I think you shoudl let him keep it for now. Sounds like he just like sto hold on to something. So similar to what Athan does. At night I pry it out of his little hands once he has been asleep for a good hour.
SLEEP WELL RYAN!!!!!

Charlie has one for a nap, he loves it...I think I started it around 6 mos...I knew at that point he could pull things away from his face, and the thing is so small, like 1ft by 1ft... there is no possible way it could suffocate him.

I would closer to 6 months and older, ntot younger. Also depends on the child, and how good they are with being able ot pick their heads up and turn their heads if soemthing is in heir way of them breathing. IF you have a video monitor, try it out and see how your DC does.

He's been rolling back to belly since 13 wks and does great with lifting his head and can sit up tripod style on his own - so I think he's doing well in that respect.

Re: Do you let your baby (4-5-6 months) sleep with something?
When she was an infant I always put something over her but would remove it once she fell asleep.
Once she was able to move around by 5 months I give her a blanket to hold and snuggle with, if she didn't/doesn't have it she ends up ripping at her face & hair.

Yes DD has been sleeping with a blankie since around 3 months old. When she was younger (less than 6 months) I would take it away once she was knocked out but now I let her sleep with it.

Re: Do you let your baby (4-5-6 months) sleep with something?
I was recently going to ask the same thing. Ella falls asleep for her naps so easy when I give her, her bunny blanket. I check her a lot and sometimes take it away once she is sleeping. I have noticed that if I leave it in with her the naps are longer because if she wakes I guess it helps put her back down.
I am trying to decide when to let her have it at night, but being that she is 4 months, I may wait till around 6 months.

DS has some stuffed animals that he sleeps with, and an Elmo teething blankie - when he is napping during the day I let him have a little receiving blanket bc I an awake to watch him with it (he loves to snuggle up next to blankets) but I don't give him the blanket at night, just the stuffies.

I personally wouldn't...but I'm a nervous nelly.
At 13 months, DD still doesn't sleep with anything. The only thing in her crib is the Fisher Price Aquarium, attached to the crib. And I don't even plan on using a blanket this fall/winter, just sleep sacks.

Same here..Luke loves snuggling with something and thats one of the signs I use to know that hes ready for bed. I was nervous at first, but after hours of observing him with it...he can definately take it off his face if he needs too..so i let him nap and sleep with it at night. If he falls asleep and isnt holding it, i put it in his crib, within reach, but not on him...sometimes he reaches for it if he wakes up and it helps to soothe him back to sleep.

Yes, I put one of my old t-shirts in with Noah when he was an infant and he still drags that bloody thing around two and a half years later. We call it Mr Blue Shirt (after Mr Blue Sky, and we sing Mr Blue you dirty shirt...we think its funny)
When he hurts himself or settles down for sleep the first thing he asks for is blue shirt.

Re: Do you let your baby (4-5-6 months) sleep with something?
DS sleeps with a blanket almost every night. I used to leave a few tiny toys in the corners in case he woke up in the AM and wanted them. But DH didn’t like that. SO now its just the blanket. He used to get swaddled with it, but always broke out of the swaddle and would suck on the blanket when he woke up in the AM, before he was ready to come out of the crib.

Re: Do you let your baby (4-5-6 months) sleep with something?
I know I am in the minority....DS has always slept with a blanet that my mom knit. When we swaddled him, the blanket went on top of him. During the day, when he used to sleep in his swing it covered his legs.
These days,at almost 6 mths during the night he rolls over and sleeps on his belly. It used to make me paranoid - the rolling over part so the blanket has come out. During the day, he still sleep with it. He curls his fingers and toes into the blanket and sleeps with it.
