Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
I wanted to decorate my 3.5 yr old's bedroom with sports things.
My DH happens to love star wars and keeps talking about it.
So DS now says he wants a star wars bedroom - down to a full size yoda wall decal (that will drive me crazy to look at!!!!)
My DS recently forgot that he wanted his walls painted "mets orange" (that was a close one) I'm pretty sure the star wars thing won't scar him for life if we don't go in that direction
Soooo - do you let your toddler pick their "theme" or do you do what you want?

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
DS was 5 when he picked out his bedroom style, and DD was 3 or 4 when she had a big influence on what she wanted. DS has changed some of the things on his wall over time as well.
Within reason, it doesn't matter to me what their bedrooms look like, so if they are happier with a certain style or theme, and I'm basically neutral no matter what, I figure I might as well try and do what they like.

IMO you sound sort of oppressive.
That said, I would hold off a few weeks or even a month or two and see if Ds really wants that still without your husband's input. Does he actually like the movies/characters? If not, I would see what else HE likes- not just force what YOU like.

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
Nope. I mean we talked about it. He wanted a train and plane theme.
So we chose regular bedding (he picked between 2) and then did train sheets. We painted the room and let him pick out some plane and train decals for the walls.
I think i have some pics in my Jacen album.
I didn't want the duvet or comforter to be theme related because those come and go. So he got to have themed sheets instead.

This. I let me 2.5 pick everything out for his room even the wall color and then i let him do for his playroom also...i felt like its his room let him decide
Currently his room is cars and dinosaurs lol

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
I didn't let him pick really, but I picked out bedding that I new he would love and he does. My DS just turned 3 and really doesn't care. My DH loves Star Wars and wants DS room to be star wars when he goes into a twin bed. Ds is in toddler bed right now. My MIL actually bought him the whole star wars bedding set from pottery barn. It's actually really nice, so I don't mind.

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
Not exactly. I might allow one or two things but if it's something I don't think is practical or I could not stand, I would not allow.
For ex, we just got DD big girl bed, dresser, armoire, nighstand, etc from Pottery Barn kids.
She wanted a "princess bed" from Babies R Us (they had a toddler bed that they had there with the Disney princess on it). As much as I wanted to get that for her, I wanted to pick out something long term...until she is a teen so I just got what I wanted.

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
Absolutely! It's their room - why shouldn't it have a theme that they want? That said, I design the room based on their theme choice - it's not like they are hanging things on the wall, situating the furniture etc. But, within reason, after their initial baby nursery - they pick the theme and help me pick bedding, wall hangings, etc. Why wouldn't you let your child pick what they want their room to be?

I sort of let dd choose. I like her pick between minnie mouse or dora for her new room. She is only 18 months so it was literally which do you like better in the store and she choose dora. But obviously I picked out everything. I feel like its nice to let them have some say in their surroundings.

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
We did within reason...she picked the color....pink
I showed her artwork & gave her a choice...she picked cupcakes. So I got bedding too.
We learned that those decals don't always remove (leave a glue residue) so we don't decorate anything that can't be easily changed when they get bored. A year later and she still loves it

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
We are chning Seamus room over to his big boy room since the baby will be here soon.
I asked him if he wanted a lightning mcqueen room but he said no. HIs room now is nautical themed and he said he still wants his sailboats and life preservers lol
So I got less babyish nautical sheets and Im going to upgrade his curtains as well. I took down some baby wall hangings and got him some nautical flags instead.

Re: Do you let your toddler pick their bedroom "style"
I changed over my DD's room right before she was 2 and I didn't ask her for any input but then, I wasn't going crazy with repainting and picking a theme. We had done the walls a nice neutral cream and cocoa color and instead of her baby jungle animals I went to a light pink and chocolate brown polka dot room. I just told her what I was doing and she was so excited and loved it! The next time we redo her room we'll include her in the plans since she will be older and probably have more of a preference.
