Do you like these ballisters, this style? PIC of foyer with tile pg 3

We are re-doing our stairs, and I cannot decide whether I like wood ballisters, or wrought iron. If we do iron, this is the pattern I want. Do you like this?

If we decide to do wood, DH wants square wood ballisters. Here is what they would look like:

(I have no idea who this little girl is, this is a picture DH found on a stair website).

I'm no help- I like both.

I guess it would depend on what the rest of the house is like.

If this helps at all, this is what our stairs looked like when we bought the house. We took off the orange carpet, and we painted over the wallpaper-it is now a light gray. The floor will be a charcoal slate grey. All with white trim.

what color would you finish the wood if you do the all wood version?
I think I like the iron one better with a slate floor.

Re: Do you like these ballisters, this style?

I love both. We have all wood, but if we ever redo ours I would get the iron and wood. It's a different look. But for the wood one I love the squareness of it. I wish I had done that with ours, plus the color is beautiful. You really can't go wrong either way. Sorry I was no help. GL!Chat Icon

I like both but voted for the iron. It just looks a little more special to me.

With the gray colors you are using- I'd def. go with the iron.

So funny b/c DH and I are the opposite, I like wood he likes the iron.

If you do wood, would you consider two-tone (white balusters with wood banister)? This is my favorite:

The iron would be silver veined, not black. I wouldn't necessarily be getting the ballisters all twisted like this, but I like the baskets in this formation. External Image

See, that is what DH REALLY wants, the white ballisters, but I nixed it because of little kid hands on them all the time. I don't want to have to re-paint or wash them when my kid(s) grab onto them to go down the stairs.

Walls are Marina Grey

Actually looks like a blueish grey on our walls sometimes.

Our charcoal tile is very similar to this, has some veining of some red in it to pick up the flooring color.

I vote for wood, but would be afraid of the white (little fingers) i would def do the square, if it goes with the feel of the house !

Anyone else? I'm actually kinda surprised most people liked the wood with the colors I'm putting in there. hmmm..this doesn't make it any easier for me.

I just started researching railings for our house and definitely going for wrought iron with wood handrail so I voted for the iron.

DH and I are having the same debate.

I love the iron, he loves the wood.

I think we're going to go with the wood (square ballisters), I'm nervous about the iron looking dated in a couple of years.

totally agree! we picked iron for our new house, but now i regret the decision. dont get me wrong, it definitely makes a statement and people always comment on it when they walk into our house. it just doesnt fit the style of our decor.

I threw in a wrench, if we do the wood, I think I like the square with a chamfer.

I really should have put this all on one entry in this post...but i've been adding as I go along, sorry!
