Re: Do you live paycheck to paycheck?
With my dh not working a stable full time job, it is very difficult for us to save. I am planning to take my entire raise and put it in an emergency fund because we have almost depleted that. I am very fortunate that my paycheck is able to pay about 65% of what we need to pay all our bills and save. I have continued my 401K though. We are taking our taxes and paying off our credit cards though so only one has a balance on it that is not too high and bearable to pay off. Once my dh does start bringing money in, we will be fine. Hopefully that will be sooner than later.

I'm not really sure either...
1. you NEED each paycheck in order to stay afloat and will really struggle if your check was late even a day?
2. you need each paycheck to pay all of your bills without touching savings (but you may have substantial savings/investments)
To me it means
you NEED each paycheck in order to stay afloat and will really struggle if your check was late even a day
Yes, this is exactly what I meant. If you are putting money away, then you don't live the true paycheck to paycheck way.
I'm sure many of us knew people right out of college that lived this way because they would go out a lot.

Wow.
Well, we do. And honestly, I don't really know why it is so bad? We pay all of our bills and our rent and we have food on the table and clothes on our backs. We definitely have been MORE comfortable, but tis life right now...
DH has a pension, but we are not saving beyond that right now and I'm not sure why it is perceived so poorly? Would I like to be able to save more, OF COURSE. But yeah, on weeks when my unemployment goes in on a Thursday v. a Wednesday it does hurt...but honestly, the world can change in a heartbeat and even those who are the most financially stable can be rocked...
But its fine with me. I love my family and I wouldn't change this for the world.
I think it's perceived negatively because things aren't 100% stable so what would happen if your world got turned upside down? You'd be in an even worse position. (Not saying you personally just a general you.) People that live paycheck to paycheck need the money to come in to make their bills. If someone were to get laid off then they have no income to pay these bills.

Yes and with children, money is constantly going out for this or that. We could probably live on my paycheck alone if we did not have children but we also would be saving more and not just living paycheck to paycheck.

Not anymore!
We changed our financial lives around, and FINALLY paid off all of our credit card debt! We're just starting to get back to living comfortably again and it's the greatest feeling in the world!! Cause it was getting dicey for a few months there. lol

We actually just got part of our taxes back today and I was able to pay off 4 cc's. It is such a weight off my shoulders. I am determined NOT to get back on that cc hamster wheel-lol!!

No, we don't.
But, we do not take that for granted. We live below our means and save heavily because we know things can change on a dime.

I don't perceive it as negative in the sense that any one of couldn't be there or that folks who are in this position are doing something wrong.
I've lived paycheck to paycheck and for me it was stressful because it was a careful balancing act.
I'm happy that we are not now in this situation but I am realistic enough to know that life happens and there are events that can put any one of us there.

We have been paying off a lot of debt recently. Once the money comes in, it's been going back out It will be really nice when we don't have these bills anymore!
Same here. We are almost there!!

We've BTDT, and we've made it through. Life happens and yeah, we need every penny that comes into this house, but we make it work.
FTR, I AM on unemployment which is why we live paycheck to paycheck
