Do you lock your front door?

So i have family that lives in Stanhope, NJ...DW and I were visiting for the weekend. We all went out and when we came back to the house they all just walk right in... no keys nothing... i was like

my front door is locked 100% of the time unless im walking through it.... what about you?

Oh yes.
I always laugh at these towns where they say- oh we NEVER lock our doors here.
Come on.
That is just asking for trouble.
No place on this earth is 100% safe... this isn't Mayberry!

Mine is always locked, however, my uncles house is one of those thats always open. Its ridiculous!

All the time because of where i live. It is unlocked though when my older DD is outside playing so she can come in.

Growing up, we never locked our doors and i dont think my parents even lock the doors now unless they're going away on vacation

absolutely. i actually double-lock it even if we're in the house.

My parents never lock their front door. They have a dog but he is hardly a guard dog. lol!

We do, but we live in a garden apartment so our downstais door is but our door is often open--never at night.

My parents leave their door open when they are at home. They have a private house on a quiet dead end street in Queens.

depends...

my front door wont stay closed unless its locked... so in the winter definitely always locked...

but in the fall and spring i dont even keep it closed, just the screen door...

i lock it when i go to work and when i go to sleep

I always do however, DH always thinks I am paranoid and tends not to unless we are going to be bed or leaving for a long time. He came from one of those towns were no one locks the door and it drives me nuts!

i always lock my door, i have been known to lock DH out when he is outside doing work

My mom's aunt never locks her front door. The whole family has been harassing her for years telling her she needs to, but they all know she won't. Both her and her husband have trouble walking, so they don't bother if a family members come over and need to get in.

About a month ago at around 2 am, someone was banging on their door. My aunt (who is a night owl) yells down, 'Who is it?' A drunk man answers "I need $20!" My aunt replies "We don't have any, please go away!"

The man went away, but returned about a half an hour later banging on the door again. This time, my aunt called the cops. They showed up, and escorted the man away, he had been drinking and was wandering the neighborhood.

They are SO LUCKY that this man did not try to open the front door, he would have walked right in.

Now, they lock the front door.

Always! The front door is locked and deadbolted- and the screen door is also always locked!

I lock it at night, and most times when we go out. I've left it unlocked if I'm just running down the street for something.

Always now but I wasnt always like that. We had an incident when someone came into the house (beyond hammered, honestly thought he was in his own home) and I believe, laugh if you will, that was God's way of teaching me a lesson to always lock the doors! Because next time it might not be an "honest mistake".

Always, especially since a man walked into my kitchen one evening a few years ago....that was a particularly scary experience I don't care to go through again!

so yea, it's always locked!!

i had a friend in hs whose family never locked their doors and they always left the keys to their cars in the ignition in their driveway!

Always.

When I was growing up, a close friend of mine never locked her door. Everyone in her family just walked in and out. Drove me crazy!

When we leave the house, yes, doors locked and alarm on.

If I am home with the kids, yes.

If I am home with DH, not always.

Every entry door always. I also never leave my vehicle unlocked in the driveway.

Our front door is always locked (so is the storm door) but that's because we never use that entrance. We use the back door and its only locked when we go to bed at night. Someone is home all day though. Otherwise on the weekends if we go out and the house is empty, all doors (and windows) are locked.
