Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
I've personally never known of any women at the places I've worked to do this.
Where does one usually pump milk anyways? In the bathroom?
I have my own office but my office has a transparent window with no blinds. Anyone can walk by and see into my office so I'd have no privacy.

I am planning on it, but I am not sure how since I share an office with 2 other people and the bathrooms are NASTY here . I am going to talk to my supervisors about where I can pump .

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
i do plan to pump, yes...and as long as i'm not affected by the layoffs at my company - i have a private office in which i can pump....and i could, if it came down to it - pump in the bathroom...there are only 2 other women who work here - so it's pretty quiet and not used TOO often...

I do plan on pumping at work. I share my office with the President of the company but we have a private bathroom. I plan on pumping in there.

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
I plan to pump. Talk to your HR person. .....there is a rule that your work has to allow you time to pump. Maybe there is a spare office or room somewhere where you can go. I don't know what I'm doing with this either as I'm in an open cube. There's the bathroom, yes, but I would literally have to bring in a desk chair and pump in front of whatever women come to use the bathroom. I could always sneak into an unused conference room (there's always at least 1 open/unused), this is probably what I'll do.

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
I do plan on it, and hope that my plans actually work out (i've come to realize that BF'g isn't automatically going to happen even if you have your heart set on it). I hope to be in a different position, but if i'm still on the unit that i am- i've seen other nurses there pump.. they usually use the manager's office (which is locked and private).

We have a health clinic in the building with a lactation room, but I do not plan to pump when I return to work.

I guess I could request blinds to put up in my office and do the same.
We have an open door policy and people are always calling/walking in and out of my office though. I feel like pumping may get in the way of my work. I guess I'll just have to play it by ear when the time comes.

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
See I was just thinking about this today. I too work in an open cube so pumping here is out of the question! We have a bathroom but I'm not going to sit there with my boob out like some crazy bathroom attendant! I work in a predominantly male company so I just don't know if I could ask someone about where I could pump...

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
I pumped the first time around and I will for this baby as well. I work in a school and used a large storage room. I would just put a sign on the door that said, "Do not Disturb". Other people at my workplace have done the same thing.

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
No - I am taking 6 months to be home w/ Baby K -
After 6 months, I want my body back and I'm not lugging the pump to/from the city every day ..........
My building has a 'New Mother's Wing' or something like that on the Employee's Health floor, so there IS a place to pump

Re: Do you plan to pump milk after you go back to work?
i could swear there is a rule/law out there that a company HAS to provide you a place to do this...let me do a little research....
ETA: well, that didn't take long:
New York
N.Y. Civil Rights Law § 79-e (1994) permits a mother to breastfeed her child in any public or private location. (SB 3999)
N.Y. Labor Law § 206-c (2007) states that employers must allow breastfeeding mothers reasonable, unpaid break times to express milk and make a reasonable attempt to provide a private location for her to do so. Prohibits discrimination against breastfeeding mothers.
N.Y. Penal Law § 245.01 et seq. excludes breastfeeding of infants from exposure offenses.
N.Y. Public Health Law § 2505 provides that the Maternal and Child Health commissioner has the power to adopt regulations and guidelines including, but not limited to donor standards, methods of collection, and standards for storage and distribution of human breast milk.

I hear ya about the no shutting door policy but if this is something I have to do they will not have a problem with it.

Yes, we have a first aid room. We close it off and it locks from the inside when someone is in there, then we put a sign saying do not disturb. It's here in HR.

For my lovely Lizzy:
Oregon
Or. Rev. Stat. § 109.001 (1999) allows a woman to breastfeed in a public place. (SB 744)
Or. Rev. Stat. § 10.050 (1999) excuses a woman from acting as a juror if the woman is breastfeeding a child. A request from the woman must be made in writing. (SB 1304)
Or. Rev. Stat. § 653.075, § 653.077 and § 653.256 (2007) allow women to have unpaid 30-minute breaks during each four-hour shift to breastfeed or pump. Allows certain exemptions for employers. (HB 2372)

This is interesting - so you have to take a pay cut to pump?
To the OP, can they install blinds or some sort of privacy screen for you to accomodate you? I have my own office and had them install a lock on my door when I was pregnant. My son is almost 11 months and my direct boss (whose office is next door to mine) still has no clue that I pump here

It's probably an 'in addition to' your work day - ie: if you work an 8 hour day, you can't take an hour lunch AND 2 30 minute pumping sessions KWIM ?

I am sure they will accomodate me when the time comes. I can't imagine them saying no. The lock is a good idea! I'd hate for someone to walk in on me. That would be so awkward.
I often knock and open doors to drop things off but we have transparent windows so everyone can see through the windows. Only the CEO and CFO have complete privacy without the transparent windows.
