Do you put shoes on your non-walking baby's feet?

This weekend DH asked me why DS doesn't wear shoes. Uhmmmm...because he doesn't walk yet! DH doesn't seem to like that DS only wears socks.

Just wondering if other mommies put shoes on their non-walking baby's feet.

Yes, DD wears pedipeds. She is only 9 months old and is not walking yet, but when I take her out (especially in the cold), I like having socks and shoes on her to warm.

Babies are not supposed to wear shoes until they can walk.

Nope per my Peds advice DD only wore socks or went barefoot until she was walking. I did put shoes on her for special occasions like Christmas.

Abby is on the cusp of walking. She is one of two kids in her day care class that dont walk independently, but in that particular class, the children need to wear shoes. When she is home, the shoes and socks come off.

DD wore pedipeds after she started heavy duty cruising - but then ONLY when we were out, never in the house. She got her first pair of shoes after she was walking across a room unassisted.

I put 'shoes' on her now when we go out only cause it's so cold outside here in WI, it's just another layer of warmth for her. But I take them off as soon as we get home. I normally would just have socks on her.

Re: Do you put shoes on your non-walking baby's feet?

I put shoes on DS when we go out. I only buy Pedi-Ped type shoes. It is getting cold out and I like to have something on his feet other then socks. I plan on buying him soft boots like Uggs for the winter months. When he is home, he only wears socks on nothing.

I did - not all of the time.

I did put shoes on my kids in the winter to keep their feet warm and to prevent their socks from falling off.

In the summer - I thought it was cute to keep sandals on their feet.

I put her in lined boots when we go out to keep her feet warm, but in the house-- no shoes. I only started putting shoes on when it started to get cold. I have a couple other pairs that I use too- but I mostly use the boots.

Only when we go out, I want to keep their feet warm, and they are in the stroller, so they are not trying to walk.
Inside they are barefoot or in socks.

nope, waste of money in my eyes- especially because they always come off! I only buy them if she's dressing up and we need to take pics. Otherwise it's just socks.

Only cute ones that matched outfits Chat Icon otherwise none. She had one pair of Robeez and when she started walking she wore Pedipeds for awhile before I got real shoes.

Re: Do you put shoes on your non-walking baby's feet?

Chloe is barefoot a lot in the house but I put socks and shoes when we go out and even sometimes in the house now that it is cold. I got her a pair of leather boots with fur on the inside at target. They are a copy of the Robees ones. She wears these almost everyday. The are really easy to get on and they keep her socks on. Other than that, she has a pair of pedi peds and a pair of silver ballet flats that she wears too.

Nope didn't put shoes on her until she started walking and even now I only put them on her when we are going out. When we are inside she is wearing socks or is barefoot.

I rarely ever have him in shoes, mostly just socks! Now that its getting cooler here in NC, I'll prob start but only when we go out!

On a sidenote, one of my really good friends here in NC is African American. Over the summer, I met her for lunch and Frankie was barefoot (he was only 5 months old and still in his infant seat). She asked me when I was going to put shoes on that baby and that she hopes I won't be one those "white trashy" people who let their kids walk barefoot in the stores.Chat Icon Chat Icon

If we are going out then she either is wearing sneakers or shoes. If we are home, she is just wearing socks. I did the same with DS when he was little too.

I put robeeze on DD only when we are going out because it is cold. I feel like it helps protect her feet from the elements.

nope, just socks. When we go out for walks in the stroller he's got the bundle me around his feet and legs so still no shoes. Not until he's officially a walker.
