i actually posted about this a few months back--i used to go nutty but I cant do it anymore---i def spend more than $50----maybe over $100?--i will try to keep it about $125 this year but I think I went over that!! --i cant budget at all!!

$50 is more than reasonable. Pretty much everyone on my list this year (except for DH & the girls) got $50 max budgeted. Some got less.

There are 13 neice and nephews in our family, everyone does what they can afford there isn't a dollar amount set across the board.

A few of my sisters don't buy gifts for the nieces/nephews because it isn't in the budget, we spend about $30 each. I have another sister who buys whatever she sees, but they have enough to do so, my bro gets each kid a $10 gift card.

In our family, Christmas is not about presents, it is about family - this is something we teach the kids from birth.

I think even $50 is very generous.

unless you want to get them something specific, I don't see the need hit an amount.

in fact, we don't really buy the kids presents...we usually take them someplace fun.

so far we've done ice skating, and horseback riding.

gotta see what I come up with this year.

but yeah, no set amount. I don't even tell the parents what I spend!

ETA: EVERYONE else has a $25 budget. I make a game out of it. how to get the biggest WOW factor for $25.

we do make exceptions if we see something that a particular person will love, but generally I do great with that price point.

We do 35$ scaled back the last couple years there are 10 kiddos on my DH side it gets pricey

Last year I got matching coats for like $35, and this year I got matching Jets sweatshirts for like $30 and may add on toys, but I think $25 is enough. I couldn't afford $100 each!

I think $50 is reasonable. It also depends on their ages. I have 3 on my IL's side:
7-maybe $40
12-Last yr we spent $100 on a guitar but usually around 50-60
16-about 60

Then my sister has 2 kids:

3-I spend alot on her since she is the only girl I have to buy clothes for-maybe 120-150
1-maybe 50

I used to go insane...$80-100 each kid and I have 3 nieces and a nephew. Especially since they're getting older it's even harder, so it's about $25-30 a kid.

I do $15 tops for each niece and nephew! I have 7. But my DC will be lucky to even get a gift from my siblings.

I usually get them whatever they ask me for. I usually get them two things, something big and something small. Probably comes to roughly $75/kid, but I'm also a little insane. I think $50 is more than reasonable.

before ds was born I did about 40-50 on the two....

after ds was born more like 25

O have 10 nieces and nephews to buy for and I am sorry but I just can't afford $500 so I spend between 30 and 40

We have 10 kids' christmas gifts to buy plus 6 kids' birthdays right around christmas. That's not even counting the adults gifts!

Every year it gets harder as we have more expenses and less money to work with. I'm always paranoid about gifts being too "cheap" so I inevitably spend a lot more than I mean to. This year, I'm sticking to my budget. It's the thought that counts and it's important to me to not try to live above our means. No way could I spend $100 per gift any more. We're not even doing $50 each this year.

We do approx $25/child. We used to do more, but with times what they are the whole family agreed to drop the dollar amount.

I don't think $50 is at all unreasonable.

I have 1 nephew...when single I always spent 100 or over. Now that I am married with a 6 month old I've been trying to decide how much I should spend. I think we will do $50.

Also, we made the decision that only kids will get holiday presents, no adults. More than enough is spent on birthday gifts that we don't need to do it again for the holidays.

$50 per child is totally reasonable. That's our limit this year for all of our nephews.

Gina, $50 is very generous IMO. We used to spend more for Dh nieces and nephew but this year we are scaling back on our budget.

I go through the same thing each year. The family is getting bigger and bigger and my budget can only go so far. I think it's the quality of the present...more specifically the gesture and love in giving one than the price tag.

We have a big family so the kids get tons of gifts from everyone. A few yrs ago we decided that we get all nieces/nephews UNDER 18 a $25 gift each. We all get our godchildren (no set amount) a gift as well. The older nieces/nephews go into the secret santa grab bag.
It was getting out of control and it works well this way for us. We do spend much more on birthdays though.

We do $25.00. The sales around this time of year are great enough to get good deals without spending a lot.

DH's family has it set where we all spend $50 on each kid. So since we have three nephews, we end up spending around $150-$175 just for them.
