No way. I never bought that it would be safer, and I still feel that way. I don't feel much was improved regarding airline safety, bridges, tunnels, etc. Chat Icon

Absolutely not.

But I hope I'm wrong. Because it's coming, they will try again.

No. I think in many ways we are more vulnerable, and after yesterday's hearing, and listening to how the Taliban has totally reconstituted to pre-9/10 levels, we have a SERIOUS problem.

Re: Do you think our country is safer 7 years later?

NO. In all honesty, NO president can make us safer as long as children in other countries are being taught to HATE by their parents.Chat Icon

I remember watching on TV Palestinians dancing in the streets on 9/11 after the towers came down..men, women and their children. People from other countries saying that we somehow deserved this attack...AS long as there are people who teach and breed hate, there is NOTHING ANYONE can do. If you believe that diplomacy will change decades of hatred, I feel you are wrong.

All we can do is teach our children to LOVE, love all people. We can put protections in place that will help curtail terrorism (airlines with locked cockpit doors, security screening, securing borders, ports, etc.) but it will never be prevented.

After being there on 9/11, seeing what I did, smelling the smell of burning flesh and dust, even 3 months after...the smell was still there. Seeing 250 lb men, on thier knees weeping, it is something that will be etched in my brain forever.

Then, that night I saw people dancing in the streets in other countries b/c they were elated that we were hurting and that INNOCENT CIVILIANS were murdered...I really cannot seeing HOW we can be safer, ever if that hatred still exists in the world. Chat Icon

I know many of you believe that diplomacy will change the perception of America to countries who hate us. That talking to them will somehow erase decades of HATE. I hope and pray that you are right, I WANT to believe that to be true, for the sake of our country and our future. I just feel that no matter what we do as a country they will not listen and they will not change. ANY Mother who can hold her infant while dancing in the street because innocent people were murdered...teaching THAT to her children...if they can do that, if they can find joy in murdering innocent people, then I have no hope that "talking" will work with someone like that. Chat Icon we just have to protect ourselves as best we could knowing and expecting another attack from hated filled people. Chat Icon

Re: Do you think our country is safer 7 years later?

I do not feel any safer at all. Actually, I feel less safe now than in the days post 9/11. The country as a whole has become so lax with security in so many ways.

Re: Do you think our country is safer 7 years later?

No, but if I lived every day in fear of what might happen, I'd be dead inside anyway .........so what's the point?

I LOVE Manhattan, I work here every day and play here as much as possible - I wouldn't give that up in a million years, if I did, IMO, THEY would have won, and they already took too much from us - I refuse to give them the power to take anything else away - I travel, I fly, I visit other coutries, I do it all without fear of what 'they' can do. They're always going to be there in the back of every New Yorker's mind (and hopefully every American as well) but I can't let it consume me ........

I could just as easily lose someone I love (or myself) to a car accident or cancer or a heart attack - so another terrorist attack is the last thing I worry about -

I'm 150% it could (and probably would) happen again, but if it does, I'll deal stress over it then, but not before then.-
