Do you treat customer service people badly?
BE HONEST.
I think we are all guilty of being mean to customer service people, especially on the phone. I have been called useless, an idiot, stupid, everything you can possibly think of, when I was waitressing and now, although I am in a nutrition based department that works w/customers in a different way, I still get called names, etc.
Do you believe you CAN treat CS people badly because you are a customer and are always right? Do you do it because you want to feel powerful? Do you think they are beneath you?

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I try very hard not to...I know its not their fault that I'm in the situation I'm in.
BUT...I just cancelled my Capital One card because I was SO fed up with them (I paid, they said I didn't, I was charged late fees when I shouldn't have been, lots of idiocy on their part)....I was so frustrated that I took it out on the CS rep on the phone. I felt bad, but I guess they are used to it.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I never treat customer service people badly...
I am in a situation right now in which a screw up by my mortgage company has not been fixed in over a year. The fact that there is a screw up is not a matter of issue. They recognize the issue...
However...
Each and every time I contact them I have to go back through the whole story over again. As time goes on the story that I have to tell gets longer and longer...
Even then I apologize ahead of time if I appear to be losing my patience...
It's not their fault that the issue hasnt been fixed...

ITA with this...I've called places and its like "HELLO!.....what do you need?" then I have attitude as well but if you start out nice...I'm really sweet. I have conversations with them.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I waitressed for years and was never treated with very harsh words like that. There might have been some unsatisfied customers now and again, but nothing to a point of being insulted.
When it comes to customer service, I am very nice to whoever I am dealing with at the time. However, if they give me some sort of attitude, then my niceness will be gone.
I have no problem letting a manager know if someone is being nasty or uncooperative, but you really have to cross a line for that.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I aleays start out very nice. The only time i get angry on the phone with them is if they start to cop an attitude with me. I once had a guy i was on the phone with from Best buy customer service who was literally talking to me like a 2 year old. He didn't think i knew what i was talking about. But i did and i shut his mouth real quick.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I don't, because I work in somewhat of a modified customer service position. I know how hard it is. I always go out of my way to be nice to people because no one ever does it for me.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
Never. I believe you get treated, the way you treat others. The kinder you are to CS people or anyone for that matter, the greater the chance for you to accomplish what you would like with a positive end result!

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I have.
To a rep at Capital One who insisted I had a late fee on a finance charge I had on a $0 balance.
That was a whole production.
They heard it from me.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
Never.
I am always nice to the customer service people I deal with. If I am super frustrated, I generally start off by saying that I am frustrated with the situation and not the person I am talking to.
I will never get disrespectful or rude with them. If I am not getting the answers I need I will simply ask for a supervisor.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
People that I have dealt w/in my setting, sometimes there is absolutely NO pleasing them.
I had a man tell me I was useless and of no help, and then interrogated me on my educational background.
I absolutely and wholeheartedly believe there are people who are on a mission to make others miserable as they are.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I start nice. Then if I'm given a problem or an attitude I get nastier and nastier.
I called one place and had to jump through 50 different automated hoops to get to an actual person (and 15 min on the phone) so by that time I was fuming.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
No. But I DO get frustrated and I will say "Listen - I know this isn't your fault but I'm REALLY aggravated!"
There have only been 2 or 3 times that I can think of where I've actually been really pretty rude to someone.. and they sincerely deserved it. Respect and kindness are always offered - but if they are not reciprocated and you treat me like garbage.. than all bets are off.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I think a lot of people have a superiority complex. I know that people get nasty w/CS simply because they can. They feel powerful when they are hiding behind their little telephone. They think you are beneath them. It doesn't matter if you're the nicest person in the world, they will find a way to be nasty and berate you.
I see it all day long in my dept.

That's a shame because CS is frequently the gateway to getting an issue resolved....flies to honey comes to mind.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?
I'm never nasty. I will admit I can lose my patience. Everytime I have though, I do say, "I'm not angry at you, it's the situation, so I'm sorry if I sound short" They usually reply, "I understand"
What annoys me are CS reps who can't properly communicate. But, I'm still not nasty, but I'm not sugar coated either.
