I find the majority of the time, THEY do not know how to talk to customers whatsoever.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I realized that getting mad and screaming would get me nowhere. The person is not going to help me more and I am only getting myself more stressed out.

I find that treating someone with respect will give a better chance to fix things in a profressional and respectful way.

I DO expect issues to be fixed and I make it clear but not in a disrespectful way.

Sometimes. I got real nasty with the direct tv dude. He tried to resell me after I called for an estimate for service. The guy I was speaking to transferred me to the manager who was a douche. He tried to over talk me and make me feel like an *** for calling back after dh and I spoke about the pros and cons of switching. He even said to me, " this isn't the 1950's, you can decide without permission from your husband" I lost it. I was livid. I called back, spoke with his boss and ripped into him too.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I totally understand the frustration people have w/CS. I just find it mindboggling in MY line of work that people can be so incredibly nasty. We are not selling them anything over the phone, we are not selling services, we are not responsibly for things like clerical errors, etc. We are here for nutritional support and research. I am not a DR, so I am not able to tell Mr. Smith that he can take vitamins w/his 47 RX meds, he has to speak to his DR. They FLIP when I tell them this, but I legally have to under FDA/DSHEA law. Would you take medical advice from basically a stranger over the phone? I don't think so.

No although sometimes it's tempting because their company may have a terrible policy (SEARS!!!!!!!!). As long as they are nice to me I will be nice to them.

I waitressed for years and was never treated with very harsh words like that. There might have been some unsatisfied customers now and again, but nothing to a point of being insulted.

When it comes to customer service, I am very nice to whoever I am dealing with at the time. However, if they give me some sort of attitude, then my niceness will be gone.

I have no problem letting a manager know if someone is being nasty or uncooperative, but you really have to cross a line for that.

See that I don't understand. Why would you ever be rude to someone who serves you food?

ETA: If the service was terrible.. like say they forgot about you.. then brought the wrong food.. forgot the condiments... never checked on you... it's happened to me. I have left no tip and a note why.

Where I work at I also deal with the members (customers) so I know what it's like to be on both ends.

If I'm given an attitude first then I try to ignore it, but if it persists, then I can get nasty. Chat Icon

Unless warranted, never. Why would I treat someone badly for doing their job? I might get annoyed with the company's policies but I wouldn't take it out on the employee. If frustrated with the company, I turn the tables and ask how they would feel if they were. More often than not, the CS rep will empathize.

Nah - I'd say 99.5% of the time, I'm very pleasant.

I worked as a waitress and bartender and completely understand being in a service industry.

However, I had a MAJOR blowout with expedia once. I was on the verge of having a nuclear meltdown. When I finally asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold for 30+ minutes.

At times I do get frustrated and raise my voice, but I would never call them names. I would rather hang up on them (and have) before I shoot my mouth off.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I admit I lost it yesterday with verizon

I called 611 to explain what was wrong with my blackberry

(track pad wasn't working, icouldonlytypelikethisnospacebar)

I use this phone for business, it was the monday after a long holiday weekend- this was the last thing I needed

the cs rep who answered at 611 told me to go the nearest store and get a new phone

I raced to store only to be told that they didn't have one in 500 miles

I flipped- I did- sorry- after 13 years of being a customer- find me a phone- I didn't break it- I updated the software as instructed by them and it stopped working

he came back after speaking to the manager and told me they would overnight me one for free....as if I would pay to have a phone overnighted when the one you sold me in july was defective-

I called back 611 and complained

I got a $20 credit

if the first person I spoke to did there job- this could have all been avioded and I would not have been so angry

they should have know that they don't do warrenty replacements as the store!

this is not even close to the first issue I have had with them- in June they disconnected my phone when I dropped my second line- disconnected!

ETA- I didn't call anyone a name

I was treated like a child by the manager of the store and I did file a complaint

I am not sure how I was suppose to act after being mislead and lied to by the customer service rep

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

Nope. If anything, I am the person who chats with customer service reps and lets them know how helpful they have been. If I know they have the power to waive a late fee or fix something, I try to be very nice so they will want to help me.

I have also been fortunate to have dealt with some AWESOME CS reps recently. Some companies have amazing people doing CS jobs who go far and beyond the call of duty.

Oh yeah, on a side note. I actually make it a point to buy from companies with excellent customer service. I will spend the extra money to be treated like I matter.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I really try not to unless I have a specific reason (attitude, being incredibly unhelpful). I recently started working as a customer service agent & I am now even more conscious of being kind as I can identify with procedure even more (when they are doing their job well & not giving an attitude of course) & understand they are just doing their job as it's expected of them, and generally, my issue with the company is not the fault of the rep I'm speaking with.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

No, not at all. I'm typically very polite. There's no need to be rude. If I'm not getting satisfaction, I will voice discontent, and ask to speak with a supervisor, but I will not be nasty....nothing gets accomplished that way.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I am super extra nice and polite to all people in the CS field. I say please and thank you all the time... I have a nice tone in my voice... I actually thing I'm a pleasure to deal with as a customer.

The ONLY time I'm not like that is if they are being nasty to me first!! Then I bark right back at them... and usually I just make a comment like "there's no need to be so condescending"... they usually stop dead in their tracks right there and apologize to me. That line works like a charm... I've used it more than once when someone was being rude to me for no reason. I think what happens is... they are dealing with one customer and having an unpleasant experience and it rubs off on them and they can carry it to the next customer.

Growing up, my mother was a waitress. I learned very early on how people should be treated. I think it's very telling of people who are just nasty to CS personnel for NO REASON. It's rude and disgusting. They aren't beneath you... and I hate that sort of attitude that I've seen people have.

I've also worked in jobs of the CS field... so I see what happens first hand on both sides of the fence.

ahhh OUTSOURCING!!!! I can't stand companies that do this!! and there are SO MANY!!!!

I must admit though.. I've def come across some good CS people in India who put on rather good American accents!!

They do tend to just read from their manuals though.. and can't give you an answer that's thought up in their own mind.

Re: Do you treat customer service people badly?

I try not to - but I absolutely cannot stand having to repeat myself 20 times, because they just don't understand what I am trying to say - I am not even talking about on the phone. I had an issue in a store recently where I forgot to use a coupon. The cashier was very nice and offered to return the item to my CC and re-ring it with the coupon. Well she actually returned it, re-rang it at the same price (which generated a receipt with a $0 balance) and THEN re-rang it AGAIN with the coupon, so I paid for the same item twice. It took literally 20 minutes and two supervisors to get it corrected. Serves me right for trying to save a few dollars Chat Icon The worst was when she was arguing with me that she had done it right, but then couldn't explain why no money had gone back on my card in the first place Chat Icon

Also, if I am on the phone and get someone on the line that *I* cannot understand, I am not rude, but I do ask for someone who speaks English. Chat Icon

I absolutely and wholeheartedly believe there are people who are on a mission to make others miserable as they are.

I think that's a life mission, not just a mission for customer service reps.

I treat everyone the way I am treated - doesn't matter if they're in customer service or my superior at my job.
