Do you wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher?
Our dishwasher is pretty new (1 year old) and I am noticing a lot of the dishes/silverware are starting to come out with some of the food still stuck on the them. Just curious what everyone else does?

I always and only rinse.
eta: Our dishwasher is new too but since the dirty dishes sit for a while before we actually turn it on I have to rinse it. Since it's just the two of us we go about three days before we run it.
The food that sticks the most to my dishes are pasta sauce and creamed spinach. I make sure to completely rinse those puppies.

utensils I soak in a cup for an hr or so then I wash all the dishes before I put them in ,and they come out super clean .

I rinse them off. If I see some food still on there I will take a spounge to it before I load it in the DW.

this is us, too.... with only 2 of us we don't run it everyday- its more like every 3 or 4 days. so, since they're gonna be sitting in there for awhile i make sure i rinse them pretty well--- and rub off the stuff that i know will get really stuck on there.

Ditto. Sometimes we go a week before we run the dishwasher though!

Unless it is something SUPER sticky or crusted on (cheese usually) I don't even bother rinsing. I only put in what the slots allow though. I've seen some people stack stuff on top (like bowls on top of glasses) and wonder if it gets done all the way.

I rinse them sure and if there is a need to use Brilo to get tough stuff off I do that.
I do not do a through clean on every plate and cup though--in that case what is the point of a dishwasher, kwim?

I don't even really rinse them. If I started noticing stuff stuck on them when they came out, then I would rinse.

I rinse them - but I don't WASH them - Why bother putting in the dishwasher if I've already washed them ??

No rinsing. Everything gets scraped off, then right into the dishwasher. Even baked-on stuff. I figure, might as well let the dishwasher have the first crack at it. If it cleans it, then I don't have to. If there is still something left, only then will I wash by hand.

I just rinse, even though I run the DW every two or three days. Depends upon how many glasses DH uses.
I read an article about how the dishes actually have to have food residue on them in order for the DW and the detergent to work properly.
eta :
I also turn it off right when the wash cycle ends and open the door to let the dishes air dry. They dry quickly because of the steam evaporation. Saves energy.

Dh does the dishes and insists on wiping them down with soap and water before they go in the dishwasher. I think it's a waste.
I can understand if there is something caked on there, but every dish gets washed. Even glasses that just had water in them. He loads the dishwasher, so i really can't complain.

I give a really good rinse sometimes a light sponging w/ soap and a rinse. I never ever leave dirty dishes in the dishwasher- ever!
