Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
My parents didn't like DD's name when she was born so my mom tried calling her "Ally"- which I don't care for. I also don't like "Al" or "Alex". I named her her name for a reason.
When it's an affectionate nickname, I don't mind at all. MIL calls her "pumpkinpie", BIL calls her "Kid" my best friend calls her "smush" and DH and I called her Bub, Boogie and Boogs most often. There are a whole slew of others between DH and I and everyone else.

I really can't say anything since I nicknamed my poor son, Jacky poops. I don't know why- just called him that when he was a baby. He usually gets called Jacky boy- even by the kids at Grace's daycare since that is what she calls him.

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
Yes, it does. I shouldn't let something like this bother me especially when I chose to name my DD Elizabeth which has countless nick-naming possiblities but I can't help it.
Some are okay but Liz makes me twitch.
The kids at her day care were calling her Gordita for a while and I didn't like that either. She was a very chunky baby but I don't need to have a weight-conscious 2 year old so I made them stop it.

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
My kids have a ton of nicknames and I really don't care.
My mom calls my son Little Man, and my daughter Mugsy because of her cute "mug" (face)... I think its cute.
Not to mention the nicknames I have for them... they only get called their real names when they are in trouble...

Depends on the nickname......it makes my cringe inside a little when people call Eddie "Eddie Spaghetti" other than that....nope.
Same here. All 3 of my BIL's call Julia "Julia Goolia" like from the Wedding Singer, but it's not that major.

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
Yes, it annoys me, which is why all 3 of my children have names that do not have "common" nicknames. In fact, their names do not have nicknames at all.
I love my kids names, and want people to call them by their names, not by whatever name they choose.

But, oddly, his name is Christopher and I CANNOT STAND when people call him Chris
Me too. My son is not a Chris. That's why. Christopher fits him
I don't mind silly nicknames though. We call him Bud or Buddy or Bub a lot.
I hated Katie when I was a kid, but my grandparents always called me that, so ithas fond memories

Yes. I hate it! I named him "Anthony" - not "Tony" or any other obnoxious variation.

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
DD recently started preschool and they automatically shortened her name, it drives me NUTS since there are other girls in the class with longer names who are called by their full name.
When she starts her new school in Sept I'll be sure to tell the teacher that I want her full name to be used.

I have so many nicknames for DS it isn't funny. To the point that I don't think he knows his name
Agoo Cookie Bunny Bear
It's ridiculous. DH calls him Boogie most of the time.
But, oddly, his name is Christopher and I CANNOT STAND when people call him Chris
oh my ds is Christopher and everyone calls him Christopher. Mostly bc so is dh, but he's known as chris. I hate when they call ds "little chris" or chris jr because he's not a jr. Its Christopher, and that's it

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
If you mean shorten their name, then yes. I gave my kids their names for a reason. And we call both by their full names, Amelia and Kate.
If you mean a term of endearment, peanut or such, it depends on the person

Re: Does it bother you when people make up nicknames for your DC
I never thought it would bother me. No kids. Not pregnant. Not trying (yet) but I like the name Sophia and my mother-in-law knows this and already has said things regularly like "I can't wait for my little SO-SO to come" and it makes me cringe. and I am not even really sure why. It makes me not want to use Sophia though....

It doesn't bother me at all- but funny enough I want to name our Rebecca and DH is refusing because he does not want anyone calling her Becky or Becca.

I think it depends on who and their reasoning behind it. DS is Thomas Joseph (TJ).
My mom calls him all different pet names but, that's just her.
My MIL calls him by his whole name because her friends loathe initial names and this seems to bother me more (the rationale behind it).
Totally OT but my DS is Joseph Thomas!

This is EXACTLY how I am. DS is Christopher and I hate when people call him Chris. I dont even like when they call him Christopher to be honest. He's a junior, so we call him CJ and thats what I prefer him to be called.
With that said, I'm pretty sure he doesnt even know his name because I have soooo many nicknames for him.
Little Foot, Monkey, Monks, Monk-a-doo, Stinker, Itty Bitty, Bitty, Doo Doo, Boo Boo, Boo Bear, Ceej. Those are to name a few
