Just what exactly did she mean by more notice? Someone died! It's not like you suddenly decided to go on a 2 weeks vacation and only told her 3 days before you were leaving!

Re: Does your boss give you a hard time about taking off for funerals
My FIL died yesterday of cancer. My brother in law called me ... instead of my husband ... to tell me he had gone. I called my husband at work to tell him. He told his boss he wanted to leave ... it was 1:30. He told his boss he wouldn't be back until Tuesday. (The wake wasn't starting until Saturday night until family arrived from Italy). The mass is Monday. His boss wanted to know what time the mass was ... could DH come to work Monday afternoon. He said he had a programming cutover (DH is a telephone/voicemail integration specialist) and he was shorthanded. I was speechless. What can one say???????????????????????

First--sorry for both of your losses. Second- That's so insensitive. It's his FATHER! I can't believe that. I know some people who seem to want a week off everytime a neighbor's grandmother dies, but my goodness, it's his FATHER!! That makes me so mad & I don't even know you.
Does he not get bereavement time? We get 3 days for immediate family, but in most cases you can take more.
And to the OP- yours was family too & you called a soon as you could. It's not your fault it was a holiday.

I'm so sorry for your loss... I tell you some bosses are very insensitive, if it was them(GFB) they would take off with my hassles or questions asked because they are the boss.I hope your Dh calls his boss back and tells him Sorry but i wont be back till Tuesday like i originally said to you.

Re: Does your boss give you a hard time about taking off for funerals
Not at all. My office is very small and my bosses know my family. When my gradfather died back in April, the whole office came to the wake and even sent two huge flower arrangements. My Aunt just passed away Thursday and the wake is Sunday, funeral is Monday and DH's boss gave him a hard time about taking off Monday. He told him "you pay your respects on Sunday and that is enough" Can you believe that? That really struck a nerve since she has been through sooo much in the past year. Cancer, brain surgery...her youngest daughter is expecting her first baby in January. It just made me so mad

I am sorry for your loss.
That sounds like something the president of my company would say. People can really be heartless.
