Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
When DS was in the infant room, his teacher was putting on his coat and said, "I love you Ian" and then kissed him on the lips. i was so shocked about what i saw that i didnt even know what to say or if i was overreacting.
i went home and told DH and he was freaked out by it. the teacher is on my facebook page so I chatted with her and told her it made me feel uncomfortable for her to kiss Ian on the lips. we save that for just close family. she said i made her feel like a freak cause she made me uncomfortable. i said im glad you love Ian and he loves you, just please dont kiss him. After that she blocked me from viewing her facebook page. probably b!tching about me.
my mom said i overreacted and i should be happy she loves him that much. so kiss him on the cheek! why the lips? i just didnt think that was right.
he's in the toddler room now, but she still gives me the cold shoulder when i see her.
what would you have done? i know i should have said something right when it happened but i was like
fyi...i saw an old post about DC teachers saying i love you and made me think of this.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
Never on the lips. But her head teacher kisses her on the cheek and tells her she loves DD. I have no problem with the cheek. Lips would skeeve me though.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
ITA with you.
As much as I would want my DS' daycare teacher to love him, kissing on the lips is way too personal, and I think she should know that. She may have just been embarrassed that you called her out, but she should be mature enough to understand and respect your wishes.
I kiss DS and DD on the lips, but I would never even think to kiss someone else's DC on the lips. I don't even kiss my own nieces and nephews on their lips.
On the flipside, my DS told his daycare teacher he loved her and kissed her smack on the lips, and she looked a bit uncomfortable!

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
That honestly is very odd and creepy for a teacher to do. You did the right thing. A teacher has no place to do that at all.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
I find that completely inappropriate. Honestly, I think a hug is sufficient from a daycare teacher - no need for kisses unless the child initiates.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
Hmmm... I don't think I ever saw Mason's teachers ever kiss him on the lips. That is weird! Usually when they say "I love you" it's not the way a mommy says it. More like a sweet, friendly way in a kiddy voice or something. I've seen them do hugs and a kiss on the head, but that's the extent.
I think that would really weird me out the "kissing on the mouth" thing. Not sure if I would've sent her a message though. Maybe give the one time a pass and then say something again if she did it in front of me again.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
The infant room teachers kissed him on the cheeks, never the lips! That would be inappropriate!
The toddler room and pre-k room teachers end up kissing him too, but mostly because he is a big, affectionate mush ball who craves the love and attention!

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
you did not overreact & it's good that you said something to her. Maybe she will think twice about kissing other kids on the mouth. It's inappropriate for a teacher to do & unsanitary... you don't know who she is kissing in her personal life or what else she is doing with that mouth

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
DS gets kissed all over the place, but NEVER on the lips - not cool at all!
(I actually have a picture of him with lipstick imprint on his face from daycare.)

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
Totally inappropriate! When I worked in daycare I never did that or new of any teacher or employee who did. Maybe nothing was meant by it but I'd talk to the teacher and or director.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
I don't even kiss DS on the lips, I was taught on the lips is romantic and hugs are only for family I was raised very very prude.
But I think it forced me to be more open minded, and ultimately made me very much lax about perceiving things like that, I mean doesn't seem like the child is harmed, and if it was DS, it wouldn't phase me much. Its probably somehow her "culture" maybe?
I don't think I would ever kiss a child on the lips, but on my wedding day a child kissed me on the lips, and while I was a little weirded out about it, I had to remind myself, I'm a prude American, and this wonderful expressive European child was just showing love. She was 8, and she caught my bouquet like a football player, we were all so silly and happy.
I totally understand that it would make you uncomfortable, as it would probably make me at first glance, and I think the daycare teacher should be more sensitive to you and stop doing it. Without all the drama, its ridiculous!

ITA...and her reaction seemed a little immature to me, I mean you didn't b!itch her out, you just told her what you prefer, what you're comfortable with...no need to block you but oh well

ITA - she could have herpes or something. I know someone who has herpes and it's from someone who kissed her as a baby! Gross and inappropriate for daycare teacher to be doing this on the lips!

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
DDs teacher kisses her on the cheek, I have never seen her kiss on the lips, but I think I would feel the same way as you.
The first time I saw her kiss DD on the cheek, I was a little weirded out b/c I have never seen her do it before. I brought it up to DH and he wasn't bothered by it. It doesn't bother me anymore, it actually makes me glad that she cares so much about DD.

lips would totally skeeve me, a cheek is ok, but I *prefer* the head - which is what DS teachers do.

I agree, although I would probably overlook a kiss on the top of the head or the cheek. But the lips? And then she got mad at you? Um... that's an issue for me. Sorry Diana

I've seen the DC teachers kiss the babies on the cheeks. I don't mind... but would feel differenly about the lips.

Re: Does your daycare teacher kiss your DC?
You are ABSOLUTELY NOT overreacting!! Sorry but that would NEVER fly with me. Babies get sick fast enough as it is...they dont need some stranger kissing them on the lips. And her reaction when you emailed her was completely unprofessional...giving you the cold shoulder and blocking you on FB...I mean grow up!!!
ETA: I would also talk to the director to make sure it doesn't happen again.
