no, not unreasonable at all. It was completely irresponsible of the shelter or rescue NOT to disclose this to potential adopters.
They probably did. Quite a few dogs are extremely friendly with humans, but do not like other dogs. My dog is the same way. She is the gentlest creature around when it comes to people, but there are a lot of dogs that she doesn't doesn't like, so we don't put her in situations with other dogs. The shelter that we got our dog explained all of that with us.
Same with my rescue dog I got from my cousin. He does not like other dogs or "new" dogs. Since I have a Yorkie that he never bites or does anything too. They actually sleep in the same bed sometimes.
But for some reason he hates other dogs and barks at them. He even goes after my BIL's pit when he tries to play with him. Before our home he was around my cousins baby who used to throw her toys at him and pull his tail. Never did anything to her.
OP if you aren't comfortable with the situation, that is perfectly normal.
Based on the OP, they only found out about the dog aggression via finding the old owner on Facebook who disclosed it.
From what I've been told, the shelter did not disclose it to them. They were told she is "dog tolerant" whatever that means, but it would seem to imply that she's fine with other dogs. I don't know if the shelter was hiding it or if they just didn't ask the right questions or if they didn't hear what they were being told.
We had discussed getting our dogs together before the old owner was found, so they definitely didn't know about the history.
I think you have every right to not want to be near this dog and you also aren't being unreasonable. If a person doesn't feel comfortable, to me i's not a big deal.
Your inlaws seem to be fine with the dog and it is working for them. The dog may have issues or it may not. But I also feel like a lot of assumptions are being without a lot of details about the dog.
Animals are animals, I never trust my dogs near other dogs without them being on a leash first - to see the reactions. My rescue dog acts like a total @sshole around other dogs he doesn't know. It's embarrassing.
ETA: They have to and should respect your wishes and not give you a hard time.

Facebook - the shelter posted that the dog was adopted, and she shared the post.

Re: Dog with Bite History
My advice to you would be that even if you brought your kids around this dog, which I would not do, your kids should not be around this dog in his own home. My dog will protect this house. We err on the side of caution. He is affectionate 99% of the time but he isn't a totally trustworthy dog.

Thanks. I'm going to stick with just not bringing them around the dog.
My understanding based on the prior owner's posts is that she has a high prey drive. So she isn't necessarily protective, which is why she's fine and sweet with adults, but she goes after things that she perceives as prey, which children who are loud, unpredictable, and active are likely to set off that instinct. I really don't think she's a bad dog and she's great for their lifestyle 99% of the time as long as they don't expect to bring her to family events and they're careful around children and smaller animals. Right now they don't have kids, their friends don't have kids, and their house is nice quiet environment for her to enjoy.

I understand totally. I think there is a little of both issues with my dog. He has a bond with my son but they are never alone together.
