dogs in baby strollers?
I don't really care about dogs in stores, never really give it much thought...but saw a woman in Babies R Us with a stroller, and saw some red hair from far away on an angle. I love kids with red hair.
As I passed her, on my way to the bathroom, I realized it wasn't a baby, it was a pomeranian.
Is this a new thing -- strollers for dogs? I laughed to myself, as I was so taken aback.

Kinda new. I have had a few come into my office. They usually use it for small dogs for travel in the city.

I once saw a woman carrying her pug around in a leopard print Baby Bjorn-style carrier. She looked ridiculous and I felt bad for the dog.

LOVE IT. Love dogs in strollers! Always smile when I see them and talk to the "proud parents".

I have seen a few, most of those are pushed around by your quintessential "crazy lady" who thinks that the dog is her child and just can't imagine making her delicate little baby take a few steps...
Than there are the sick dogs who can't walk, but that's a whole other story....

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I'm probably going to start something by saying this but dogs are NOT supposed to be in stores unless they are service dogs.
I'm a HUGE dog lover but why is it ok for someone with a small dog to break the rules. I'll bet you anything that if I brought my 80 lb. Lab in there I'd be kicked out right away.

I totally agree...my dog is a retired guide dog and doesn't understand why one of us stays in the car with him when we have to run into a store real quick. If we're stopping for a slightly longer time, I'll take him out of the car and walk around the parking lot. He tries to pull me to the door and wants to go into the store, and I tell him that he isn't allowed anymore (like he actually understands what I'm saying ).
I don't think it is fair that little dogs can break the rules. I've had people come into my job with little dogs, and have had to kick them out because the dog was being vicious. Just because they are little, doesn't mean they are perfect angels.

Personally, it has legs. It can walk! In a few years, we'll be hearing how the obesity rate of dogs has increased 45% since 2000. I love dogs...but really?

Agree.
I have 3 large dogs, all 70+ lbs..why are people with small dogs allowed to go into stores where I can't bring my dogs?
In Europe you can bring your dogs almost everywhere. My dogs are very well behaved, why can't I bring my dogs in?
Edit - this is also why these little dogs don't know how to act like dogs, because they don't walk themselves. When I took my dogs to Obedience Training there were so many people who brought their toy dogs in for bad behavior only to have the instructor tell them to treat the dog like a dog and stop carrying it around all the time, it's not a purse.

We have an older lady who walks her dog in a stroller every day around our neighborhood. We also have a man who walks two miniature horses.

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
The only thing that really bothers me is when people bring there small dogs in the Supermarket around food..I just find that wrong. Oh and another time I was in walmart and this lady had this Pomeranian and everyone who walked the dog was being barked at..LOL..Eventually a employee told her she had to leave..she was very P.i.s.s.e.d!

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
Honestly...I've thought about getting one for my 12 yr old chihuahua. She can't keep up like she use to but she still loves going on walks. We just can't go as far anymore. Don't know why people care so much. It's not doing harm to anyone.
And I've seen dogs who are paralyzed in strollers...so don't assume all dogs can walk.

This isn't necessarily true. A lot of stores allow dogs. I have a 50 lb. dog that I will often take into stores with me (pet stores obviously, but also book stores, toy stores, stationary stores, and others). Unless they sell food or have a "No Dogs Allowed" sign, then I'm pretty sure you can take your dog inside.

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I have seen this in stores and wrap it up all you want in a pretty bow...it is weird. I took a pic once of one and while I get you might want it for walks for an older/disabled dog, no one can give me a sensible argument that an able bodied dog should be in one inside a store.
Trying to upload the pic I took.

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I always err on the side of caution and assume the stroller is because the dog is not physically able to walk long distances.
Would I do that for my dogs if they became so disabled that they could not walk anymore, but still have the benefits of being out and meeting new people? You're damn right I would. And I also wouldn't give a flying #$%& what anyone else thought about it either.
That said, I don't know if I'm strong enough to push 160 pounds for long periods.
Non-service dogs don't belong in regular stores, period. I feel that people who bring them in anyway care much more about their own agenda than anyone else, and probably won't listen to reason. They just don't care.

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
i see this a lot in the city. I think its mostly for older dogs or dogs with issues that prevent them being able to walk a lot. the owners should still be able to bring them out for the day instead of leaving them stuck at home.
i also see people running pushing their dogs in strollers. some dog breeds can't do that much exercise (i.e. pugs) so the owner pushes them in the stroller as they run.

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I find them to be quite pathetic. Unless a dog is sick and can't walk ...but you can kind of tell by the owner if they're just one of those weirdos that feel the need to put their healthy dog in a stroller.

I think its ridiculous as well.. Dogs need excercise , unless it is sick or cant walk .

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I absolutely can't stand when I see people carrying dogs around. I have always felt like its some kind of torture. Its a pet let it run around & play like its suppose to. What bothers me more then people having dogs in stores (not service dogs of course) is when someone has a dog on a train. During shedding season my allergies go crazy. So bad that I have to take an extra dose of allergy medicine everyday, even if I am not in direct contact with my sisters dog. (DH & I live downstairs from my sisters dog). Then along comes some ding dong carrying her rat sized dog dressed in Juicy in a LV bag onto the train. Drives me nuts.

I think it's a great way to sneak a dog into a store where it doesn't belong! Just throw a receiving blanket on it and you are good to go!

Re: dogs in baby strollers?
I have two hearts about this. On one side- some people really feel like their dogs are their children. I know it might sound strange to some, but it’s true. On the other side- I don’t know how much a dog really wants to be in a stroller or something like that.
