Dogs with baby/kids (1 more)
Am I the only one who leaves the puppy alone with my kids. For example. My kids in the playroom with the dog and I'm in the kitchen.
I feel absolutely fine with it.

I leave my dog with the kids all the time.
She is all of 9lbs and does not have an agressive bone in her body. She is literally scared of her own shadow.

Re: Dogs with baby/kids (1 more)
I leave my dog alone with my DD but DD is 3yo and we've had our dog for 6 years before she was born, so I know how she is around DD. I'm completely comfortable with them being alone. There's no way getting around them being alone it at this point. I'm not locking DD in her room while I take a shower, or bundling her up to take her outside while I bring the garbage to the curb.
My dog was never alone with DD for at least the first year, maybe even longer. I don't recall them ever being alone together until she was 2, but we also had a tiny apartment ao it was hard to even be alone.

Re: Dogs with baby/kids (1 more)
I don't...I'm afraid to just yet. When I get a better idea of how Misty is going to react to pulling and tugging I may be more comfortable, but for no they are supervised when together. The cat, however, gets to spend alone time with DS all the time.

I leave my Shitzu with My DS once I hear barking I take a look to make sure my son is not touturing the dog. My Dog is scared of my DS but still liked to play with him...

Re: Dogs with baby/kids (1 more)
I do, and I also want to mention that I think parents need to TEACH their child not to mess with the dog
Miki knows not to
Pull the dogs ears pull the dogs fur hug the dog tightly around the neck pull on the dogs legs, etc
I do NOT think that dogs should have to deal with being tortured by kids

I'm the opposite. I will not leave her alone with the cat because the cat is too unpredictable but have left her for short periods with the dogs. DD is a very active kid and climbs everything, so I don't really leave her alone anywhere for more then a few minutes.

I have no problem with it either. DS is 2 and our dog is 5. They are buddies.

Re: Dogs with baby/kids (1 more)
I was going to say never if declans not in the swing but I guess I'm wrong. I was just cleaning our bedroom with declan playing on the floor and had to bring some stuff into his room and walked out with the door closed and didn't think twice. I guess at this point I don't think anything would happen.. of course I won't do that a lot.

Really? I don't think my cat would hurt DD but the cat thinks she runs the house. If someone is in her way she will do whatever is needed to get what she wants. She is a bit of a Diva.
